In this Post-graduate program taught in the Fall of 2009, Ra distilled Environment down to very specific formulas that impact quality of life, longevity, relationships and the ultimate potential of unique Perspective. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 1 Lecture One Hardscape, Landscape and the Health of the Body Hello and welcome to all of you. We begin this five-lecture journey into elaboration. To begin this I want to start with I think are elementals in all of this. You can see the subtitling in the heading here of Environment, Base Orientation and Tone. We’re going to get into some really extraordinary things in terms of the complexities that are there. But I do like simplicity. No matter how complex the knowledge is, the fact is that it can always be distilled to a simplicity that is direct and honest and clear. And I think that that's always where the surface is. It’s always where the roots are, where the foundations are. What I want to focus on today is I guess a more reflective perspective on these two very, very powerful keynotes and we tend not to see them in the sense that we know that they’re there. And I do get occasional questioning about the values attached to these keynotes. But particularly with the kind of work that we have all been doing at this level in Human Design, we tend to get into the aspects of the external and its relative relationship to the tonal configuration and all the things that arise out of that in terms of determination and environment. Because it is part of where we are in this process in the knowledge that those are very important elements, what we’re working with in Holistic Analysis and at any of the higher levels of the knowledge right now are all of these various elements so that we can be comfortable with them, familiar with them so that it's easy for us to synthesize all of this data, because there's so much. I think what happens in this and if there's anybody to point a finger at it’s me, in that sense, is that in introducing this terminology I don't think I really took you far enough in grasping what they actually mean. And I don't mean that in the obvious sense of what the data means, because you know the data well, that is, the variations that are there in the Colors and what happens to them in their Left-ness or their Right-ness, all of those basic things we been through for a long time. --- PAGE 10 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 2 Hardscape is the Beginning of Evolution But I really want to talk about something else, almost philosophical in a way, is about the relationship between these two things and where that takes you, if you think about it. So, let's just begin with hardscape. It’s very, very interesting for me and I don't know how many of you have caught this, in all of the number systems that we have with the exception, obviously, of Base because it's rooted in the 5, that we have this 1 to 6 formula. And this 1 to 6 formula, I’m always talking about this being an evolutionary process, an evolutionary process starting with the most primitive down here and obviously moving towards the most sophisticated or sensitive, depending on what you're actually looking at. We’re dealing with an evolutionary process. Now, I don't think in the years that I've been teaching this information that anyone ever asked me why hardscape is the beginning of the evolution and landscape is the end of it rather than the other way around. And in fact, if we were to go back to our history, that is, our evolutionary history and go back to the Neanderthal we would probably get back to a place where landscape would be the beginning of the process leading towards an eventual hardscape. But something to really understand about hardscape and we can see that it is finally at its full ascendance. We’re still not yet into the landscape evolution because the landscape evolution is something that is really waiting for the change of the cycle because the cycle is holding on to the themes of hardscape. Let me give you an example of that. Everything in nature is always trying to reach an equilibrium; always. And we have an equilibrium on this planet between what we call urban dwellers and what we call rural dwellers. For the first time in our history there more people now living together in urban areas than in rural areas. It's just --- PAGE 11 --- LECTURE ONE Hardscape, Landscape and the Health of the Body Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 3 over the 50% point. What holds that together is the power that has been there in the last 400 years in the background frequency that has been the Cross of Planning impact on everything that's going on here on this plane. The 40/37 Establishes the Viability of Complex Communities It is the 40/37 and the way in which the 40/37 operates that, in fact, establishes the viability of very complex communities, communities so complex that they were unimaginable. It would have been impossible even in the greatness of Rome with its approximately one million citizens, which was really quite remarkable for an ancient city, ancient relative to us a couple of thousand years ago or so, to compare that to Shanghai or Mexico City, these incredibly vast populations that have to be maintained. Again, it is not just a matter of human beings coming together. It's the inherent bargain in what sustains the viability of such congregated communities. Of course, that’s all of the services and facilities that are part of that inherent bargain and the trust that arises out of that because it’s fundamentally tribal and everything about tribal is support. So we have communities that in essence are designed to support our viability within those communities. Something to think about when you think about hardscape is what hardscape represents to us, because we're really at a cusp point. That is, the land is going to draw us again as the hardscape phenomena begins to deteriorate. And that point of deterioration is only going to begin post-2027 when we change the background frequency and we have an individualized background frequency that is not rooted in the fundamentals of the tribal mechanism. There is a tribal gate, the 59 amongst the three individual gates, that is, the 55 and the 20/34. But the 59 is simply about the way in which the genetic imperative in terms of reproduction is going to be impacted by the mutation in the 55, its opposition and will really not carry with it all of the tribal accouterment that you get in a defined life force like the 40/37. Hardscape is an Evolutionary Force For those of you that have historical interest, anytime that you look at an age that is dominated by a definition, the age that we’re in dominated by the 40/37 or the age we’re moving into that will be dominated by the 20/34; this is a huge vast life force at work on this plane. This whole community bargain legality that is the ideal of the modern intellectual, is a legal society, all of these niceties that are built into the control mechanisms that are really part of the way in which our world operates, it's so important to really understand hardscape as an evolutionary force in order to recognize that those that have it are designed for it. --- PAGE 12 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 4 Now, think about it in a different way. Right now there is an enormous panic going on here in North America relative to H1N1 that is being cranked by the media and governments trying to show that they really care and there are thousands of people standing in the street at clinics here waiting for a shot for something that from everything that I've read about it from everywhere is no worse than any normal flu. And yet, you can see this incredible panic. Hardscape Beings are Designed for the Density of Pollution Now, think about it. I’m living in a hardscape environment right now. And I'm just lucky because I'm a shores person so I can compensate to some degree, but I'm in a hardscape world, this urban environment. And in this hardscape world there are certain beings that belong here. They belong here within the health context in the sense that they belong here because it is what their immune system in fact is designed for. Now, these are going to be the 1st, the 2nd and the 3rd Color beings, obviously. But it’s something to think about it to put that in another way or to think about that in another way. They are designed for being able to deal with high levels of bacteria and all of the things that are going to be present in communities where you have density of population and you have all kinds of things floating around, get on a subway, get on a bus, get on a train, go into a mall, go into a crowded office facility, everywhere you have this density of microbes and all of these things. Something really interesting to understand is that those beings that are landscape— the 4, 5, and 6—are not well-equipped for that at all. They're not. Their immune systems are not designed for that kind of density of biological pollution. They're not designed for that at all. So, think about all those 4th, 5th and 6th Color that find themselves—if we could split the world the way it is today with half the world in the cities and half the world rural, all of those beings in the city should be 1, 2, 3s. And all those in the rural areas are 4, 5, and 6s. And then you would see that all of our homogenized illness programs, because we have these homogenized illness programs that are at work on the planet, that they would not have that kind of affect that we see today. --- PAGE 13 --- LECTURE ONE Hardscape, Landscape and the Health of the Body Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 5 As a matter of fact, it would be highly, highly minimalized. What you’re getting to see is that those people that are going to be the most susceptible in the urban environment to the background bacterial field or viral field are going to be those beings that are not in the right environment, they don't belong to a hardscape environment, they belong to a landscape environment, because that's what their immune system is designed for. This is what it's prepared for. It is not prepared for all of this density. It isn’t. Hardscape Beings: Naturally Good Immune System & High Level of Conditioning So immediately you have to start thinking about these keynotes in a very different way because that extrapolates out into other things. Think about what it means to be designed to be a hardscape being. To be a hardscape being means that you have a relatively naturally good immune system. It also means that you have a lot of aura-to-aura contact. So, it also means that there is a very high level of conditioning in the hardscape environment. After all, it’s the hardscape environment that dictates the rules to the landscape environment. It simply does. You can look at that in terms of the way in which life unfolds on this plane, that where there are all these congregation of forces, it’s these forces in that gathering together that are going to establish the laws of the land and the way things work. And it’s something to see that hardscape beings are designed to deal with a lot of conditioning. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's a bad thing, by the way. They have immune potential in dealing with the kinds of conditioning that is going to occur in a densely populated environment. They do. Now, again, if we’re looking at this for the point of correctness, we also see the fundamentals. You have to be in your specific environment, it has to be correct, dietary regimen, all the things that you know, so make sure that's a precursor to this. But I really want you to understand the kinds out dilemmas that it brings to our health. After all, when we’re looking at the external, we’re looking at the storyline; we're looking at our health story in this life, quality of life, longevity, all of these things. Those beings that are designed for landscape that are attracted by the homogenized program to migrate to the cities to become part of the hardscape, these are the ones that are going to be so susceptible to the environmental illness programs that are out there. The reality is that those beings who are 1, 2 and 3 that are living hardscape, they are really well-protected in that sense. They are designed for it. Think about pollution, and I mean that in the in the general sense rather than biological pollution, but think about pollution itself and high levels of material in the atmosphere, all of these various things a part any modern city, any city, period on the planet. And you have to see something. That if you're 1, 2 or 3, you can deal with that. You're designed to be able to deal with that. --- PAGE 14 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 6 Now again, given that you're correct, given that all of those basic fundamentals about looking after your form are being observed, it doesn't mean that it's unhealthy for you to be in a big city because there happens to be pollution, or to be in a big city, which means that there is an enormous pool for the potential of pandemics or whatever the case may be. You’re actually designed for that. Hardscape is ready for the Complexity of a Broad Social Dynamic More than that, it leads to something else. It leads to the social potential in a human being. If you're hardscape person by design you're ready for the complexity of a broad social dynamic. In other words, walking down a street surrounded by all kinds of moving human beings, the escalator world, all of the things that come with having tremendous contact with particularly the Wa auric field that is so prevalent in the way in which the urban environment operates. You’re designed for that. It’s so different for somebody who's coming from the other side of the divide, because they're not. It means they’re more likely to be infected, their more likely to be polluted, they're more likely to be alienated in the vast collection of auras that they have to deal with on a day-to-day basis. Environment is really something. Everything about the hardscape being—think about what it means to be an urban being, what it takes to be an urban being, there are skills that are built into that. It’s very different from what it's like to live in the countryside. It’s very different from a rural farming life, which is still a great part of the lives of so many on this planet. And with it comes the development generation after generation of different kinds of skills, different capacities. Kitchens/Markets If you’re a 1st, 2nd or 3rd Color, this is where you belong. It’s been interesting. I've been doing all kinds of connecting with people in various ways. I often get these questions about what does it mean to have kitchens or markets. They don't normally ask about caves because it’s pretty much self-explanatory. And I always tell them the same thing. Be urban. My advice is to go immediately to the hardscape keynote, because they know that that's what's going to be good for them. It’s going to be good for them. Our Life Story has a Setting Again, if you’re designed—this is the whole thing about recognizing one's place in the world and this journey that we take when we reach our Saturn that is the intended journey of environment leading to perspective leading to awareness, the story that we’re here to live out in this life. The story has a setting. This is the thing that’s so important about hardscape and landscape, these are settings. These are settings --- PAGE 15 --- LECTURE ONE Hardscape, Landscape and the Health of the Body Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 7 where the fundamental skills and the continuity that’s there in anybody’s design where those skills are going to be able to flower, where that uniqueness is going to be able to flower. And it's about recognizing that if you're working in the urban environment and you’re getting people coming to see you and they have problems and they're going to be landscape people, most of the problems that they're having are problems that are being exacerbated, being amplified by being in the wrong environment. And as we well know, this is what the not-self does. In other words, the not-self is going to mix these things. Now, I’ve always deconstructed these things for you, and deconstructed them in a way that you can take practical advantage of them. For example, I have suggested that you can be a mountain person by being on the top floor of a building. But ideally, that building should be rather isolated rather than that building being part of a whole neighborhood of buildings and you happen to be on the top floor. In other words, there are things that can substitute for mountain, but nothing can substitute for landscape. And the same is true for valleys and shores. The Dilemma for the Hardscape Being In other words, this is something to really grasp about the inherent values that are here in the terminology, inherent values. Hardscape people’s greatest dilemma, even as not-self, is dealing with people who don't belong in their environment and don't function well in that environment. After all, you can be in the right environment, but you can be there because you have a way of navigating to that place. Most human beings do not. So, they’re constantly putting themselves into situations that are fundamentally unhealthy for them because their immune systems are just simply not prepared for it. Their life isn't aligned to it. It isn’t. One of the most common stories that has existed through the Cross of Planning phase that’s been deeply romanticized is something that's called “going native.” Osama bin Laden is a classic example of going native. Somebody who grows up in hardscape and they simply get to a point where they have to abandon it and they step out. They go native. They go back into a more primitive way of life. You had that in the 70s and the 80s, the back-to-earth people, the ones who wanted to give up living in the cities, go back to the country. These are 4, 5, 6 people, unable to handle what it is to live in the hardscape environment, because hardscape is really a very specialized thing. It is primitive, in that sense. It’s ancient. This is all we’ve been doing. If you look at our developmental history based on the seven-centered being and what the seven-centered being was capable of, everything about the life that we have, the world that we live in is all rooted in the development of hardscape. Mountains and valleys and shores are Left in that in that sense only because they have not yet succumbed to hardscape. And we've all watched in our lifetimes how the hardscape environment has eaten up the landscape. --- PAGE 16 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 8 I have that here in Toronto. When I first came to this city about 45 years ago to visit a friend I stayed at their house and they had a stable, they had a nice little farm and right now that farm is deep, deep, deep within the city limits. It doesn't exist anymore, obviously. It’s simply gone. That is, the landscape in that sense being gobbled up by the hardscape. And what we're waiting for is the breaking point. The breaking point is upon us. That is, the thing that's going to change the momentum, and again that opens up a real opportunity for us in terms of being able to provide generalized advice as a foundation for somebody's well-being. I’ve spent a lot of time now over these last years trying to exalt the value and importance of the Nodes, and particularly the importance of environment. Environment is not something that you could do anything other than resonate to. It’s what makes it so special. It’s not a given. You’re here to resonate to that through the correctness of the way in which you make decisions and the quality of the brain system that you have. The Environment is the Precursor to Well-Being The environment is the foundation upon which you get to fulfill your life, your story, your purpose, all of those various things. And when you see it at that level in terms of longevity, quality of life, the elimination of the negative factors of conditioning from others that you're going to meet in that environment, the environment is the precursor to well-being. Having a healthy brain and a healthy environment, and that healthy environment is the precursor to well-being. It is the way in which a healthy life is going to unfold. Anybody that comes to you for advice, and you're going to have a large number of beings who are going to—most of you, if not all of you live in urban environments, live in hardscape environments, and you have to take a very close look at your own Color configuration. Again, when I say something like that, I am not telling you what to do. The only thing that can tell you what to do is your Strategy and Authority. And if you are in a hardscape and you happen to be landscape person and it's correct for you to be there because it's correct according to your Strategy and Authority, then as they say, no harm done; just get the high floor in the building, because everything is about Strategy and Authority. But generally speaking, it is so, so incredible to realize how much lack of well-being is just at this simple level. This is what it's all about. Again, one of the things that we get to see in a process like this of transformation rooted to mechanics is that the mechanics are written in stone. There's nothing you can do about them. The mechanics are very clear. The mechanics say half of the world is urban people and half of the world is not. That’s the mechanics. That's the proper balance. That’s the proper equilibrium. --- PAGE 17 --- LECTURE ONE Hardscape, Landscape and the Health of the Body Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 9 A Realignment And as I said, we're going to have one of these incredible moments. We live in the bi-verse, we live in a duality and this equilibrium between “this and that” is what everything is about. It’s from the greatest equations to all kinds of geopolitics and this and that, whatever the case may be, we’re always looking for equilibrium. Some people call it peace. We’re always looking for this balancing point. We’re actually at that balancing point. We’re slightly tipping over now to the hardscape side, but as I said that's going to collapse. It’s going to collapse as we move into the next stage and we're going to have a realignment that's going to take place. It's going to make it more difficult in a sense for hardscape beings to operate on the material plane if they don't have an inner authority to guide them, because it is going to be much more difficult when there is no cooperative infrastructure that is the life force behind the thriving hardscape as it is today. But when somebody comes to see you in a hardscape environment, and they are not, that they are landscape beings, this is the first thing that they need to experiment with given that they are already into their experiment, to experiment with taking time away from the hardscape environment because it is the only way that they're really going to find their way to well-being. Well-Being and Awareness Well-being is so important for us. To be in the right environment is not just about what Variable points to and what I’m always point to, which is the carrot at the end of the stick, that carrot of awakened awareness. But all that is about cognition. It's not about per se the physical life, the physical well-being of the life. It’s the byproduct of that that is the awareness program. But you’ve got to be healthy to support it. And you’ve got to be healthy aligned to what is the correct life for you. In the work that we've all done together in PHS so much of it has been stressed on determination, and rightfully so. That is, the first step in transformation is to make sure that you're being nourished correctly and to make sure that in nourishing yourself correctly, that you're giving yourself the best possible advantages in terms of being able to fulfill your potential. Yet, as we well know it's only one of four aspects of transformation. And that on the Design side it is half the story. And the reality is that the determination is part of the Dependent Variable. It is dependent upon that environment. That environment is a great nurturing force. Again, we know from the life of the nine-centered being that this is something that starts at the Saturn return. It is the way in which we set ourselves on the path of our uniqueness, because that's what the storyline is. It’s the path of your uniqueness in this life. When you're looking at somebody's hardscape or landscape just at that basic level, you can point very clearly, “Look, if you want to set the foundation for your life, for --- PAGE 18 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 10 your story, there's an environment that you have to be in. And it's only in that environment that you're going to be able to find that alignment. And that you can't get there by deciding to get there. It has to be correct. It has to come according to your Strategy and Authority. And that your Strategy and Authority will determine the way in which you evolve to the environment that is correct for you. But it’s a must in this life.” Landscape Think about landscape. Think of what that really means is that the moment that we get into the landscape, the mountains, the valleys and the shores, basically what we're talking about is depopulated areas. Now, we're not talking about areas that have no people. But what we’re talking about is a transformation in density. In other words, that there is a need for space, that these are beings that are only going to unfold if they have that kind of physical space. It’s very different from somebody who's a cave person. It’s very different in terms of the kind of air that they need to breathe. If you think about hardscape beings and what they're breathing and landscape beings what they are breathing the assumption of the landscape person is, “Oh, those people are breathing in all that horrible stuff.” There is this assumption that it's all negative, and it’s not negative at all if you belong to there. As a matter of fact, it is an actual component that is going to be missing in you if you're not there. I’m not a moralist. I'm not somebody that looks at a polluted environment as a negative. I'm not into that, because it’s so obvious to me that everything that exists creates waste. Everything that lives has by its very living creates consequences and changes in the environment that’s around it. It’s only natural thing. There's always this assumption that the things that man makes are not natural, which is really a joke. If you see a monkey playing with a stick to open up something, you wouldn't have the same expression. You’d say, oh isn’t that amazing. Look at nature at work. The fact is that everything that comes out of us is part of nature. And this assumption that these environments with their high levels of material in the atmosphere, that these are in fact dangerous places. And it gets substantiated by the people that get emphysema because they live in a city. Well, I can guarantee you that the chances are nine out of ten that they're going to be landscape people. And they don’t belong there, because they don't have an immune system, they don't have a design that is really designed for that. They don’t. Global Warming And of course, that substantiates the risk, the threat, the fear of all of those things that are associated with that so-called pollution. In the same way that global warming is seen to be a negative. And I know how easy it is to construe that as a --- PAGE 19 --- LECTURE ONE Hardscape, Landscape and the Health of the Body Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 11 negative. Most of you know that I don't consider it a negative. That is, it’s not the point. The point is not about whether it's good or bad, because it depends on your perspective. It’s about understanding what it’s for. The increased heat on this planet is something that is all part of what is the mutative process that’s taking place. We're in a vast mutation, and a vast mutation that is deeply influenced by heat. And it's been going on since 1781, since the advent of the nine-centered being and its increased body temperature and the world around it through the Cross of Planning that has brought us all what we refer to as industrialization and all the heat that goes with it. I want you to unload those prejudices and begin to see that if the only beings that lived in cities were 1, 2, 3s, you would never hear complaints about pollution and this and that. You wouldn’t. Not from the medical point of view. They are designed for it, truly. I guarantee you that if you have a number 1 cave miner, one of those people that goes deep down into the earth in this dense, dense dust and all of that stuff and so many of them end up with terrible breathing problems and everything else, but these beings are designed for it. By the way, if you’re a cave person, I'm not suggesting you become a miner, but nonetheless, it's really about understanding that in looking at these terms we’re seeing something else as well. We’re seeing a predisposition in the way in which we can live out our lives, a predisposition to a certain way of being. It also means that the immune systems themselves here are actually going to be more vulnerable than the immune systems here. They just are. These are very, very powerful immune systems. They’re there to be able to handle the hardscape environment. And in that sense, they are much more powerful to those beings who are going to have less of a density in their aura contact and in essence can end up being very vulnerable. That is, it's very easy to infect a gene pool that has been isolated. We know that historically; the conquistadors when they came, for example, how quickly you can bring infection into these areas because they are isolated from what is the density of the background information. And they operate very differently as a result of that; less contact. Now, it doesn't mean that they don't have contacts, but it means that they're going to be less a part of their lives than here. Kitchen and Market People are here to be Industrious Again, those contacts don’t have to be personal. If you live in hardscape you will have all kinds of auric contact with an enormous number of strangers potentially every single day. It’s very different from being in a landscape. And again, there are dilemmas for the hardscape being who is in the landscape. They don't get to fulfill their potential. They don’t. They’re influenced by the auras around them, it's part of their design, and they're here to be industrious. If you’re a market person or a kitchen person you’re really here to be industrious. You’re what makes the whole mechanism work, is that fundamental creative process of making things happen. --- PAGE 20 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 12 Think about the devastation, maybe that's too powerful of a word, but I think that it's appropriate in a way, think about the impact of the market beings to the change in the background cycle. The success of our world economy is based on the legality of transaction, that money actually means something, that it gets recognized by others, that you can exchange that money for services, for products, for all of these things and all of that is based on the background frequency. It's maintained by the background frequency. The Diminishment of the Hardscape Environment The moment you take the background frequency away we go back to bartering. We go back to real basics. And that's a deep limitation in the way in which resources can move. It's a very deep limitation. It’s what we were like historically for so long in our history. We will not have the creative potential to transform energy into a usable currency. We’re going to get stuck with the tradition of the barter. And of course, this is going to diminish the power of the hardscape environment. What makes the hardscape environment work is its industry, its businesses, its creative processes that are taking place within the urban environment. And all of this is going to be deeply impacted. So, we're going to have a real change that takes place here. We’re going to have an opening up to the development of the different kinds of possibilities that are going to arise out of the landscape configuration. We’re dealing with our evolution. All of this is an evolutionary story. The thing that's so obvious about the rave when you—those of you who have participated in my cosmology program—the rave itself is not going to be interested in hardscape. It will not function in that way. It is not designed for a seven-centered city. The seven-centered city will bring it no advantage. Everything about the way we’re moving towards the future is that reaching this peak, reaching this midpoint that we’re at now—2027 is really the marker in the sense that as long as we have a background frequency of the 40/37, the hardscape is going to maintain its growth and it’s going to maintain its relative viability. In other words, being able to manage these megacities and keep them functioning. But beyond 2027, this is something that will begin to deteriorate. More and more beings will be streaming out of the cities, this reversed migration, streaming out of the cities, going back to the earth as it were. Again, this immune system and what it is there for isn't going to operate well in this kind of an environment. And no matter what the future brings, the 1, 2, 3s are always going to find a way in the hardscape no matter what the condition of the hardscape happens to be. They're the ones who are going to adapt to the changes that are going to take place in the way in which the city functions. But beings that are on either side, they're not going to do well. --- PAGE 21 --- LECTURE ONE Hardscape, Landscape and the Health of the Body Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 13 The Environment is Needed to Mature Again, it goes back to understanding how important it is for us to be able to provide clients with an understanding of their environment as more than just simply a place, or a quality of a place. It’s really about grasping that this is where their well-being is. This is the source of their well-being in their mature life. It's so interesting to think about that, that you need your environment to be able to mature. You go through the first Saturn cycle and in going through that first Saturn cycle, all of that is developmental. All of that is just preparation; nothing more. And a preparation that is almost exclusively oriented to the development of the brain system. Again, after all, we’re here for cognition, so ultimately cognition is going to be the thing that is going to be developed. And yet, to recognize that once that's there, once you have a being who goes through their first Saturn return properly nourished, operating according to their Strategy and Authority, that you get to that place and it is then you must have that environment, because it's going to provide you with a healthy life. And the healthy life that is the unique life. You’re coming out of Penta. You're coming out of that whole developmental process. This is entering into your own life, where you belong, where you’re going to meet the forces that are correct for you, where your physical system is best aligned. I’ve talked about it before and I’m not going to go through it again, I've had that lesson so deeply implanted in me in my life. To mess with environment is to take enormous risks, because in fact, you are not designed for that specific environment. Oh, you can be conditioned to it. And of course, in that conditioning you take away from your well-being. You impact your longevity, the quality of your life. And we well know that in the nature of the homogenized world they we’re not going to have a world that is split physically the way it's intended to be. We don't have a natural order at work. But it says so much for that one person at a time. In your professional work that one being at a time that really is ready for transformation in their life; not everybody is ready. Not everybody is on a fractal where the discipline to live such life is available. And that discipline can mean that in operating according to your Strategy and Authority that you have to pull yourself up from what your mind told you was the best place to be and really go to where you're supposed to be. The Undefined G & Environment I think it’s something that is really significant in working with people that have an undefined G, that though it doesn't provide them with a specific in the sense of the exact place, it certainly puts them in a direction that is going to be much healthier for them. The undefined G that belongs in the landscape, how much easier it is going to be for them because they're designed for that to get to that place where that potential of the right place is offered to them, that it emerges in their process. --- PAGE 22 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 14 We can really benefit the undefined G in terms of what kind of locale is really the key. And you have to start from the absolute. You’ve all gone through this program with me where I have deconstructed all these values, and they can be deconstructed to exist in any kind of environment, you can have all six of these environments in the middle of a city. And yes, all of that is very useful information because it certainly brings certain benefits to those that actually have that environment and happened to be not in the right living space in terms of hardscape and landscape. Landscape: Smaller Communities However, to start with the absolute is the most important. There is a huge difference between the hardscape and the landscape. When I say landscape, by the way, I’m not talking about just simply broad open spaces. I'm talking about smaller communities. You’re never going to get away from communities, but I'm not talking about cities. This is country as opposed to city. And obviously, country can have its communities and all of these various things, but it’s a very, very different frequency. If you’re a hardscape person, life is full of strangers, and there's a certain anonymity. If you’re a landscape person, life is full of people you know, much more than the people that you don't know. And that's what becomes interesting in essence, those that come through, that reach the mountain, that get to the valley, that are on the other side of the horizon from the shore that attract all the interest in those beings. Be Aware of Environment and Let Your Strategy and Authority Move You But when you’re dealing with somebody and you see that, this is something that is very important for them to know, to plant the seed in them. And remember to plant the seed without that being a specific direction, because it is not. The greatest danger of the mind when it gets knowledge like this is the assumption it can do something about it. The only thing that you can do is be aware of it and then watch yourself, watch the way in which your authority, your strategy moves you this way and that. If you’re correct it moves you to your environment. And it will do so when it's correct to do so. Just because you're aware of it, doesn't mean it has to happen right away. It doesn't mean it has to happen in a year or two years. It’s not like that. After all, all of us are dealing with layers and layers and layers and layers and layers of conditioning. We were all born and raised deeply conditioned. So it's quite a process. But one of the things that is so valuable is to understand how important environment is. I’m on this journey of getting to a place of trying to bring radicalization to anybody that is ready for this journey. I am cautious by nature. It's my 12th gate. There is always caution in me. I have taken my time in teaching so many things over the years because I'm cautious. I want to make sure that as things emerge --- PAGE 23 --- LECTURE ONE Hardscape, Landscape and the Health of the Body Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 15 that they’re grounded, that they are referenced through experience, that they are established as legitimate, all those things come along. I've been spending a lot of time introducing the general Human Design audience to the beginnings of transformation specifically determination, to talk about the importance of diet, the fact that the deepest conditioning is the conditioning that begins the moment you come into the world as a bio-form and you need sustenance. We were deeply, deeply conditioned in that way. But the second thing is to bring a greater and deeper understanding of the importance of environment, and the importance of environment that can be reduced to simple levels. It is time for the general Design audience to understand these themes of hardscape and landscape, because it is one of those momentous shifts in your process when you really begin to align yourself in the correct environment because it is the start of what is your story. And that's what we all want. That's what's there for us, is our story, and our story that is guided not by this knowledge, but by our authority. All this knowledge is for your passenger consciousness so that it can take its pleasure in watching the movie unfold. But the actual way you get there is still very basic. It’s your Strategy and Authority and out of that, the fractal to the discipline to maintain the various aspects that you need to maintain to be correct as a human being. So, it’s something for all of you to process and to begin to see. If you’re a hardscape person and you're living in the landscape, you're not doing what you're here to do. You’re not. And whatever the psychological personality reasoning for getting away from the city or this or that, all of that is just misguided conditioning. The fact is that if you belong in the hardscape then that’s truly where you need to unfold your story. It’s where your potential, whatever it may be, is going to come out. Half the Population is in the Wrong Place This is what we are about. And you have so many people on either side of this. You've got all of those people in the landscape who are being conditioned to think that they need to be here in order to have material success. And all those that are hardscape that are running away over here because they think they need to get away from it all and need to be more simple again, all that stuff. It’s just an endless, endless cycle of homogenized conditioning. And it's always being made up by that half of the population that's always in the wrong place. What a joke, isn’t it, half the population that’s always in the wrong place; always. And it means that the two halves are all in the wrong place. It means everybody. The not-self is so distorting and it takes us away from our life. This is where you build that story. You build it here. So, once you get that inside of you, it’s about sitting back and waiting to see what calls you, what pulls you to what is correct for you. But these are different beings. They’re designed for very different environments. And they have the inherent gifts built into them for those --- PAGE 24 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 16 environments. And they're not here to be distorted by propaganda either way. The grass is always greener. Being Where You Belong to be Makes the Difference in Your Story It's about fulfilling the legitimate potential that is there in you as a being. It begins with being where you belong to be. This is where you're supposed to be. This is what is really going to make the difference in your story. And then you have all of those situations where the absolute is just not attainable at the moment. Then there are all these deconstructions we have, how you can bring each of these elements into the other like the tall buildings, the valleys that become boulevards and shores that become the railway tracks that divide this from that. There is all this deconstruction that you can do. But in essence, though it helps, it’s not putting you on the path of your true story. It's not. What I love so much about Variable is that it says that there is a way in which mechanically we can see the perfect natural circumstance for ourselves, where we belong cognitively, where we belong physically, how to make sure that we operate correctly in order to be able to achieve the potential of our cognition, is awareness. And that you can't have it all unless you have it all. You can't get there until everything is incorporated. It Takes Time to Establish Your Story It's quite a journey in the nine-centered being’s life to move through environment to perspective, these 20 years of Saturn to Kiron. It takes time to establish your story. For many of us, our stories are established much later in life. This is our hurry-up process and why I really call out for radicalization. It’s something to be aware of. I notice it myself and I've noticed it very deeply. I've been here three months now in a hardscape environment, and I get to see the lake from my building. I'm really close to the shore, in that sense. And obviously that is protective at one level for me. But I'm deeply aware that this is not my place. I'm deeply aware that the hardscape is not my place. As a matter of fact, it has brought me deeper isolation than I would normally need as an integration Manifestor. I'm aurically not designed for the hardscape. I’m not comfortable with the crowded streets and all of those things. So, it is something really to be aware of how important it is for us to see the bottom line, and the bottom line in terms of environment and in terms of the health of the body. The bottom line is the hardscape and the landscape, and being in an environment that nurtures you. After all, we each have that, and it is something that is there for us in order to be able to prepare us for what’s possible. --- PAGE 25 --- LECTURE ONE Hardscape, Landscape and the Health of the Body Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 17 The Importance for Clients to Be Aware of Environment So, it’s a very important issue in your work with clients, to truly make sure that they're aware of this. Even if it's at the most rudimentary level, that if you have somebody that you're working with one-on-one that it is clear to you that they really are ready, that they're really there for the process, that this is something to let them know about it. Again, always bring the caution, because anyone who has knowledge is always in a position of power and human beings are designed to be sheep that are going to listen to somebody telling them that they can do this and that and the other thing. This is just information. How you deal with the information is Strategy and Authority. It's their Strategy and Authority that going to do that for them. This is the way that you truly get to fulfill your process. You start and stay consistent with the mechanics. All right, well, nice to start this off with all of you. It’s nice to see you here. We will continue our journey. So until then, to all of you, you take care. Bye for now. ~ --- PAGE 26 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 18 --- PAGE 27 --- Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 19 Lecture Two Tonal Keynotes and Environment All right, let’s get into our subject of today which is introducing to you the way in which tonal information can be applied to environment. When I was taking you through your three-year program in PHS this was something that I did not get into. And I did not get into because frankly I think that you were overloaded with information to begin with and it is a nuance to the nature of environment. But I think at this point where there is so much emphasis that I’m placing on the transformation stages that are there in dietary regimen and environment that it becomes something that is important to have a sense of in order to have a deeper descriptive library in the way in which you can express or explain environment to the other in order to be able to give them the kinds of things—I like signposts. I like being able to give people something that they can really look for, or that they can tune into in order to be able to see that they are correctly aligned. So, this level of interpreting the values—and again, the values we’re going to be interpreting are just there as part of general attributes, obviously, those are Personality attributes. What we’re really going to be looking at is how these elements that are there, that is, the descriptive qualities that have on the Design side for tonal activation, to be able to look at them. We Resonate to a Specific Environment Now again, remember there is something very different about—and it’s one of the things that in the original PHS program, it’s really not possible to get into in any depth—is that in dealing with the Design external we are not dealing with direct imprint, we’re dealing with resonance. This is something very, very important to keep in mind. That is, we are here to resonate to a specific environment. It is not a given. We are here to resonate to it. And we’re only going to resonate to the correct environment when we’re operating according to Strategy and Authority. And in terms of the transformation of the vehicle, obviously you have entering into the process of bringing proper nutrition to the body. --- PAGE 28 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 20 The 1st Tone: Smell However, it is something to realize that this resonance to environment carries with it a cognitive quality, if I can put it that way, a cognitive quality in that the environment is enriched by a sensory quality. So for example, let’s just begin with the very simple. It's always good to start at the beginning, so let’s start at the beginning and let’s begin with the sense of smell that is there when we’re dealing with the 1st Tone. This is something you’re going to resonate to. In other words, if you’re going to have a 1st Tone and it’s on this side of the graphing, then you’re going to resonate to caves that have a certain aroma, markets that have a certain aroma, kitchens that have—in other words, what you’re going to see is that in each and every one of the cases you’re going to be able to apply this attribute. Not all shores, as an example, just to be obvious, smell the same. If you stand by the shore of the lake and you stand by the shore of the sea, right away you’re dealing with a very different aroma and it’s really going to make a difference. So that this quality, this aromatic quality is going to be part and parcel of the nature of that particular environment as well. We also know something else. That is that landscape smells are going to be very different from hardscape smells. Now, there are going to be some that are interchangeable, but nonetheless there are differences that are going to there. So, it is something to keep in mind. We also know, for example, that somebody who is going to have the 1st Tone and they’re going to have the 1st Tone in relationship to --- PAGE 29 --- Lecture Two Tonal Keynotes and Environment Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 21 kitchens, you know that aromas are something that are going to be particularly powerful for this being. As a matter of fact, hardscape aromas are very, very different obviously than landscape aromas. We have the aroma of the urban environment; we have the aroma of the manufactured goods or the things that are cooked. We have the aroma of the marketplace. And depending on the kind of market that we’re looking at, deconstructed into all of its values, we’re going to have the potential of very different kinds of aromas. So, this smell is something that is going to be very important. When you have somebody that has a 1st Tone environment and you talk to them about aroma, they immediately are going to tune into that, because it's one of the elements that’s very important for them. As a matter of fact, it is something that is just simply very, very powerful for them, what is the basic thing, does it smell okay. These are beings that are only going to feel secure in that sense when their particular environment has the aroma that is correct for them. Again, if we want to go back to how we find that, we find that through operating correctly in getting there. But again, it’s something to grasp about how different somebody with a 1st Tone is going to be than as an example somebody with a 2nd Tone. In other words, the sensory quality of the environment is something that is going to be very different, very different indeed. The 2nd Tone: Taste Everything about the 2nd Tone, and again I repeat myself when I say so, but it is one of those things, I find 2nd Tone to be fascinating. Fascinating in that they are able to suss out, to be able to have a sense of what in essence others don't have a sense of. They’re prepared for something that others aren’t prepared for. It says something about the way in which this underlying sensory quality is going to be there in terms of the way in which the environment is going to be experienced. The Need for Air Circulation Now, one of the things about the nature of the 2nd Tone itself is that when we’re looking at this, we’re looking at everything that is really about the mouth. It’s about the mouth. One of the most important things that you can bring to any environment that has taste is the need for air circulation. Air circulation is something that is incredibly important for 2s. It’s incredibly important because so much information is being carried in the atmosphere and these are beings that are very sensitive in terms of the way in which they take information in, the way in which they judgmentally take information in because taste is so much like that. You see that in the dietary regimen with the --- PAGE 30 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 22 open and the closed, this capacity to even in the open to take something in and then to spit it out because it's not correct. So one of the things that’s really a key, for example, if you have somebody who is a cave person and they have 2nd Tone, it’s very important that their cave is well ventilated so that they have access to information that’s flowing in that they are going to taste, literally. Anybody who has the 2nd Tone and is dealing with hardscape, one of the most important things for them is not to get trapped in stale air environments, that that is something that is simply not going to be conducive to their well-being because they pick up so much information by being able to sample literally the atmosphere. The 1st Tone is Locked into Surface Aroma It’s very different from the smell people. One would think that that is a similar context, but it isn’t because the 1st Tone people are totally locked into the surface aroma. That is the thing that is very, very important for them. Particularly, for example, the extreme is cave people because they're comfortable within their cave environment, the cave environment really holds in a lot of odors and odors that aren't necessarily recognized by the person that’s living in the cave because they are the byproduct of their living in the cave. It becomes very secure and very reliable. As a matter of fact, when you're an outsider and you come into somebody’s cave, the first thing that they notice is the change in the aroma field. And the 1st thing that they’re tuned into is your particular smell and whether it’s in conflict with their --- PAGE 31 --- Lecture Two Tonal Keynotes and Environment Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 23 environment. These are people that are never going to let somebody into their environment that they can't smell, if you know what I mean. The 2nd Tone Needs Fresh Air So, when you’re dealing with the 2nd Tone, the most important thing is that, in a sense, it’s always looking to that harmony, valley with the wind moving through, and all of this information being passed along. So it’s going to be very important for these beings. Now obviously, there are advantages in that sense to those taste beings who are going to be in landscape in that they are less likely to have to make an effort in order to get access to fresh air. And basically these are fresh air people. They need their fresh air. It’s interesting to see what happens when you see that as a dysfunction because again they’re here to resonate to fresh air that that call to fresh air is a call that often makes them believe that they don't belong in the hardscape. It gives them that sense that they need to breathe the air that’s here. And of course, the grass is always greener on the other side. It really becomes a dilemma. That is, it is a key ingredient, particularly in the hardscape because with the proper circulation of the air, they're able to take in a tremendous amount of information, we’ve got a higher density of population, take in a great amount of information about what is going on around them, and at the same time giving them an added benefit in terms of being able to react correctly within their environment. So, these first two Tones, obviously we’re dealing with the splenic binary and this theme of it being concentrated. In other words, these are very important and essential elements if one is going to be in a healthy environment. And again, we’re dealing with a health issue here. So, those beings who are 2nd Tone, one of the most important things to their health is that if you’re going to be in one of these complexes where you can’t open the window and you only have artificial air circulation, you're really in the wrong place. Get a hammer and break the window or something, because you really do need the air. And without that air circulation you're not going to be healthy. --- PAGE 32 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 24 Hardscape can Live in Polluted Air It doesn't matter, by the way, if the air is polluted. That’s one of the jokes. If you’re hardscape, you’re hardscape; you’re designed for all of that. But it’s very, very important for the 2nd Tone that they're not in stale environments. It’s the kind of thing where the 2nd Tone person is never going to let things go stale around them. There is constantly going to be this need to refresh and bring some transition to the environment. They’re very sensitive to the environment not being circulatory, not being able to bring in more and more information. Now obviously, they don’t cognitively think about it that way. They don’t. They’re simply going to have a need for that. And again, it is the same process of applying this quality to what’s there, and also realizing that it's always going to bring its nuances. It's always going to bring certain subtleties. The moment that you match it with any kind of specific environment, obviously when you're dealing with the mountains or the valleys or the shores, when you’re dealing with landscape, we know that the air circulation is there. A Balancing Act One of the dilemmas of that is that there's no real balance. That is, when you're dealing with hardscape people, hardscape people are always not just looking for the circulation, but they're always living with a certain amount of relative stagnation in their environment. It is just natural to living in urban dwellings, living in that kind of a life where there's always going to be a certain amount of staleness in the environment and there is always this balancing act that’s going on. But it’s also a balancing act that’s necessary. Again, the staleness also carries certain amounts of information. It usually carries the information of that being itself, something that can be lost on the other side. It’s to like this is all positive and this is negative because it never works that way. It’s about seeing that those beings who are only out in the circulation are losing continuity and connection in that sense to their own development. So, it can get quite profound because again, remember that what we're dealing with is that environment is going to establish the perspective. The whole storyline is going to be built on that. That the only way that is going to be able to function correctly so you end up with the unique outer authority in the end is if all the elements are differentiated. Again, it’s just something to be aware of. Somebody who's going to be correct, they’re going to have that balance, they’re going to have their dwelling by the shore where there's a certain amount of stagnation, staleness in the atmosphere that is going to compensate in that way so that they have some kind of grounding, because all of this is essential information. --- PAGE 33 --- Lecture Two Tonal Keynotes and Environment Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 25 One Set of Aromas or Taste at a Time It also means something else. It also has to do with the way in which they are going to take in the other or not. What we know right away about smell is that if you link it to determination you’re ready to smell one thing at a time. These are beings that don't like their environments that have overly complex aromas. They’re much more comfortable with taking in one set of aromas at a time. It’s the same thing in terms of taste. What you’re going to see is that there is an openness and a closeness to the other in terms of the kind of information that’s being taken in. The 2 is always about whether you answer a call or not, no matter what level you’re looking at. So, whenever you're bringing sensory qualities and you’re bringing them over to the basic environmental keynotes, there are many, many ways that you can link them together. And of course, all of those get to be something that is very visible when you begin to live out the correctness of your process because it’s not a mental thing to go after these things. It’s about sitting back in your correctness and watching that unfold so that you get to see that. But it also tells us a lot about why there's cognition. Our Health and Well-Being in Relationship to the World Around Us After all, we work with Variable; we work with four keys to cognition. The cognition is there. We see a Left-ness and a Right-ness in the Independent Variable. And it means that those cognitive forces are there and they have a reason to be there. And so the way in which the environment is impacted becomes something that adds to the cognitive connection to the other. I guess that's really the key, because whenever we're dealing with the Independent Variable or dealing with externals we’re always dealing with the reality that this is about not simply our health and well-being, but our health and well-being in relationship to the world around us. So you know right away that the 1st Tone environmental being is going to be very, very conscious of the aroma of the other and it’s the aroma of the other if that’s not correct it’s not going to work. Basically what happens is that when they’re correct and when they’re in their environment, what they’re going to see is that they're going to attract those forces that are going to be acceptable to them at that level, in the same way that the 2nd Tone is going to bring circulation in its relationships. In other words, if you’re 2nd Tone and you’re in your environment and you're all alone it’s going to be unhealthy for you. It just is. You need the circulation. So, you're going to need the circulation of others coming through in your process. Those that are going to bring that possibility of the different kinds of information that can be taken in in that environment and also that circulation is going to benefit the well- being of that person. So, if you’re a 2nd tone in a cave you know you need circulation in the cave. And it’s not just simply that you need to have a window. It’s also about the fundamental human factor, that it also indicates the need for this movement of beings and the --- PAGE 34 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 26 danger of getting too fixed; because of course, this is going to create that “staleness” quote unquote that is so particularly unhealthy for the 2. The Ajna Binary Let’s take the next step. When we come to the Ajna binary, the obvious thing about the Ajna binary is that the only thing that you can do with this is to see this as the center of the whole mutative process. It’s here in the visual cortex that we have this shifting that is going to take place, that is going to lead us over here to the inner vision and the Right- ness that is on the other side. And obviously, the Right-ness is going to work very differently. We know right away when we're looking at environment and we’re talking about Left-ness, the first thing we know about that is that this is an active principle. It is something that is very important for the being that they have the correct level of activity; again, not something that you can decide on, but something that emerges naturally out of your way of being correct and your passenger consciousness responsibility to recognize that. The 3rd Tone: Outer Vision When we're dealing with the 3rd tone, we're dealing with outer vision. This is very obvious in the sense that regardless of where the environment is going to be, that the environment has to provide the opportunities of looking out on the world. And it doesn't matter whether it's your cave looking out on the world or it’s your place in the market or it’s the top of the mountain or whatever it may be, but it is an environment that is visually stimulating. Now, that works two ways. The first way is the obvious. That is, everything about strategic development and the reason why we conquer the planet was that we were always looking out; the ultimate strategic perceptive, looking beyond and then going after it. So it’s this outer vision environment where you're not blind, where you can really see what's going on. If you've got outer vision it’s better to have a glass door than to have a solid door. You can look through the door. You can see what’s coming on the other side, that kind of thing. It’s very important that outer vision has this potential to look out. So, these are environments that are going to nurture visual stimulus. --- PAGE 35 --- Lecture Two Tonal Keynotes and Environment Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 27 But they're also going to nurture visual stimulus on the inside. Where the 1st Tone being needs to have an aromatic environment that is nurturing, the 3rd Tone being needs to have an environment that is visually stimulating. These are going to be those decorative of environmental beings. In other words, they are the ones who are going to make sure that their environment has all kinds of things that will attract their eye and that they’re going to be very concerned about those visual elements. The other thing is that it really is about not smelling the other or tasting the other, but it's really about seeing the other. And it is about the others seeing your environment. In other words, that the environment itself becomes something that is a stimulating field because it stimulates the visual aspect and the visual aspect is really what this being is going to be all about. And of course, it's going to have very powerful impact if you’ve got somebody who is a 3rd Tone that 3rd Tone is going to put a lot of pressure on their ultimate perspective. It’s going to hone their perspective to deeply visual elements that are going to be a byproduct of what this being needs in order be correct in their environment. And all of that is active as a principle. The Splenic Binary is Always on Alert You can see that if you go to sub-themes, there’s a big difference between this concentrated—because it’s splenic and it is fearful—that everything about the splenic connection to environment is very much constantly on alert. It’s always there. There is always a sense of ill at ease when something changes in the environment or the air shifts, these kinds of things that 1st and 2nd Tone are going to be so deeply connected to in terms of their comfort level in their particular environment. The Ajna Binary is Periodic The moment that we’re in the Ajna binary, though, we’re dealing with something else. We’re dealing with something that is periodic. In other words, it’s not like the outer vision environment that only the outside stimulus is the only thing that’s there. It needs to be there for the periodic process. And it also means that their connection to others is going to be periodic in that way. In other words, if you're going to be somebody that is going to have either the 3rd or 4th Tone environmentally, you can't always have people in your face. You don’t always want to see them, even though they may be people that you like. It’s not people that you always want to see. So, it is going to change the way in which the environment is going to work when you chain it to the sensory phenomena. And again, it is the same application no matter where you’re going to put it. In other words, it is just the underlying theme that is going to be very much just attributable to whatever the specific color happens to be. That's all on the Left. --- PAGE 36 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 28 The Right Environment When we go over to the right side things do change. That is, the activity level is no longer there. What we're dealing with is an environment that relaxes. This is an environment over here that stimulates, stimulated by the smell, stimulated by the taste, stimulated by the outer vision. It’s all stimulation. This is about being relaxed through inner vision, being relaxed in your feelings, being relaxed in touch. It is about relaxation. It is about being at ease. It is about an environment that nurtures that sense of not being caught in splenic fearfulness. It’s very, very different. So, the moment that you’re looking at anybody that’s going to have a Right environment, this is one of those basic signposts. If you’re a Right environment your body and your process is filled with tension, there is something that is incredibly wrong, because to be Right environment literally means that you're here to be very comfortable and relaxed, passive in that sense, in your environment. Now, it doesn't mean you're not doing things. But what you do, for example, the standard negative comment about somebody that’s a couch potato. Everybody’s heard this term, couch potato. Somebody sits around all the time to watch TV or play the computer, whatever the case may be. But if you’re a Right being in terms of environment and you’re a couch potato, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. As a matter of fact, that's probably the best thing that you can be. You’re a Right being, you’re taking in an enormous amount of information, not just simply from what you’re participating in in your passive way taking in the information of television or working with the computer or whatever the case may be, but it's also those kinds of things where you can be relaxed where you’re taking in the deepest level of information. It also means that your environment is there to create what is a relaxed interaction with the other. If you’re Left your environment is for stimulating, active relationships. And this is for very relaxed relationships without the strategic qualities that come in that bring the tension to Left-ness. They’re very different. It’s much easier for somebody, for example, who is Right who is in the correct environment to just be at ease with who comes into that environment, and with no particular need to do something about the fact that they’re there. Do you know what that’s like? Take the example of you have a guest come into your home. There are two kinds of guests. There is the Left guest and there is the Right guest. If they’re Left they want to be engaged. They want to be stimulated, they want an active relationship, show me around, take me here, take me there, let’s do this, and let’s do that. That becomes the way in which the relationship unfolds. But if it’s Right you just sort of come in and do your thing, as if it was almost your own home in that sense. The Right isn’t there to engage you in that way at all. It’s there to have everything unfold in a very calm and easy way. It's very different. Everything about Right-ness and I think this is one of the things that I brought out --- PAGE 37 --- Lecture Two Tonal Keynotes and Environment Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 29 when I was teaching about Variable is that you have to see that all Right-ness is the precursor of the rave; all Right-ness. The Rave will be Passive The Rave is something that will be so incredibly passive that most of us would look at it and find it hard to understand how such a life could be meaningful, because it's an absolute passivity. And a passivity, without that being a negative term and I don’t means it as a negative at all. But after all, what is the future of the rave? The rave is there to give up any personal identity, to give up any unique authority, and to be available as a resource to a conscious Penta. That it’s the conscious Penta that is simply going to tap into the Right resources of the raves that are a part of that Penta. Now, that has nothing to do with us. And yet, we all, to one degree or another, carry Right-ness in our design. It is there. It is what we are all moving towards. So, you have to be able to deconstruct this and see this in the context of what it means to be a nine-centered human, and to be a nine-centered human with Right- ness. It is by its nature calm. It is. It is by its nature relaxed. There is no need for the tension because only when one has to focus is the tension necessary. It also means that in the Right environment, one is never focused on the other; never. The other may come and engage you, because after all Right-ness is a resource. But the way in which that takes place is something that takes place without any focus, so that there is no pressure in that sense. It’s a very, very different kind of thing. So, when we’re looking at these themes and we see them on the right side, we have to see that they bring a very special quality to the way in which environment is going to operate for these beings. The 4th Tone: Inner Vision Let’s begin here and we begin with the rest of the Ajna binary and the other side of the periodic. Here we're dealing with inner vision. Now, that tells you something right away about the difference between these beings. This person, if you could imagine their house just hypothetically, the outer vision person, their house is going to be as decorated as they can do it. Now again, given the constraints of finances and talent, they will decorate as much as they can. In other words, the visual stimulation of their environment is something that's very important for them and is going to be something that is attractive to those that are going to be attracted to this correct being in their environment, those people that are going to appreciate the stimulation that is provided in that visual environment. But if you go over here to the other side, they don’t really care about the decoration. They don’t. They’re not looking for outer stimulation, they're not looking for a painting on the wall that they’re going to focus on and ponder, because that's a --- PAGE 38 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 30 strictly Left outer vision thing, to hang symbols and things that they can focus on, all of that. But this is inner vision. Inner vision doesn't need any decorating at all, if you grasp my drift. They’re not going to be concerned with that. They’re going to be, as anybody is, because after all we’re a bio-form and need shelter and food and all of these things. They’re going to have an environment that is going to be practical for their nature. That is, they’re going to have a bed and table, all of that kind of stuff. And based on conditioning they’re going to have things on the wall; none of that will matter. They’re here to relax in that inner vision. These are beings that are going to naturally be more contemplative in their environment. These are beings that are going to enjoy the fact that they don't have to light up the house. Think about the difference between these two; it’s one of those fascinating things. Outer vision— they’ve got their decorated house and nighttime comes. They turn on all the lights. They’re even the kind of people that will have lights over pictures so that the pictures just jump off the wall. They’re the ones that are going to put all the lights around the outside of the house. There is all this light that is necessary. And then you go over to the inner vision person’s environment and nighttime comes and they have forgotten to turn on the lights. Everything is dark and they don’t mind. They don’t even notice necessarily, because it’s so easy for them to get into an environment that nurtures their meditative state, this inner vision world. After a while, when you understand the sensory connection to environment, you’re going to be able to go into people’s environments and get it. You go into the smell environment; the moment you walk into that person’s house, no matter where it is, no matter what its environment is there is going to be this very, very specific aroma to it. If you go back a week later, you’re going to get that same—you know what that’s like? You open the door to somebody's house and there is this aroma field that just grabs you. It’s just there. It’s a dominant thing. So you begin to have this way of feeling out the underlying sensory qualities that are connected to somebody’s specific environment. The Solar Plexus Binary Let’s get to the real juicy stuff, I guess. Everything about the Solar Plexus binary is that we’re waiting. I did this lecture yesterday about emotionality in the time of mutation and talking about the ending of the motor wave in the 55 and the 49 and what that really means. It finally means we will get the beginnings of Solar Plexus awareness, Solar Plexus awareness that is spirit and principle --- PAGE 39 --- Lecture Two Tonal Keynotes and Environment Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 31 awareness, what we see here in the Personality terms, the judgment, the acceptance, that this a totally new way in which we’re taking in information, a way of taking in information that is divorced from what we understand is either mental or splenic. After all, until now, all we’ve ever really been able to garner from the emotional system is the byproduct of its wave function. When we’re dealing with the 5th and 6th Tones they’re not yet fully developed. They’re almost at the door, the 5th and 6th Tones particularly. The 4th Tone along with the 3rd Tone, because this is where the mutation took place in 1781 that they’re really connected in the sense that we can access them because they’re still part of the mental landscape—I shouldn’t mix terminology—they’re still part of the mental construct. But when we’re dealing with the Solar Plexus system we’re dealing with something that really is different. The 5th and 6th Tones really are different. The 5th Tone: Feeling/Sensitivity Now, to put it at a simple level when we’re dealing with 5th Tone, what we're dealing with a sensitivity to intangibles in the environment. What I mean by intangibles is that what the mind and the Spleen have never been able to deal with. In other words, that they have no way of interpreting those values. And basically the values that are being interpreted are things that we can look at as auric, in other words, being able to take in very deep levels of information from the aura of others and also information from the prevailing electromagnetic field and the information that’s in the electromagnetic field. This is an area where when we’re up here, we’re dealing with things we understand. That is, we’re dealing with seeing, whether it’s inner or outer. Here we deeply understand this because it’s so primitive in the way in which we have been interpreting life on this plane. But this is all new. And it’s not really possible to describe what this is in mental terms anymore than it's possible to describe from the mind why the Spleen says yes or no in any situation. You can theoretically come up with an answer, but it doesn't allow the mind to understand why the Spleen said yes or no. It just explains that the Spleen being the immune system is spontaneous and it’s going to recognize whether something is healthy or not. Cyclical Structure But that's not the same thing as the way in which that awareness actually operates. And it’s the same thing over here in the Solar Plexus binary. So, we have very rudimentary qualities that we can bring to that. The other thing about it that is it’s a cyclical phenomenon. It’s cyclical, so it’s going to go through a kind of pattern structure. It’s always going to come back. And it says something about the relationships that are necessary in environments that are going to be 5th or 6th Tone oriented. In other words, here you can see that relationships have to be concentrated, here relationships are periodic and here relationships are cyclical. --- PAGE 40 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 32 Now, that’s really profound when you think about it, because it’s telling you the way in which your relationship process is going to operate when you're really correct and you are in the right environment. This is something that I really understand, this difference that is there in beings. It goes back to my earliest teachings about the nature of environment, that environment establishes the way in which our life story unfolds in relationship to others. Now, we all have this thing about relationships. This is our genetic imperative and it's something that is conditioned in us through all the split definitions that bring the pair bonding imperative even stronger into the conditioning field. We all have to deal with the other, but we all have a very specific differentiated way of dealing with the other. Concentrated Relationships If you’re going to be a 1st or 2nd Tone environmental being, then you need to have those concentrated relationships. These are the kinds of relationships where there is this common, often, regular connection to the other. And they are environmentally going to invite that, you’re going to invite concentrated relationships in your cave, in your market, wherever it happens to be, but these the kinds of relationships that are going to be healthy for you. Again, this becomes a signpost. If you have those concentrated relationships in your process, then you know that you’re aligned correctly. Periodic Relationships Here it’s very different. It’s periodic. It's much less attached to the relationship that constantly has to be there. And by the way, none of these preclude having a lover, a friend, an associate. It’s just about the amount of time that you're going to spend with these beings, the necessity for the density or not of your connection with the other. Obviously, it's going to be something that is very significant in the way in which that changes what’s healthy for you. Remember your longevity, your well-being, your quality of life is determined by your environment and your perspective, and determined by the forces that are going to be in your life. To be healthy, longevity, here you need concentrated relationships; here you need periodic relationships; and here you need cyclical ones, the ones that just come and go. Cyclical Relationships Those cyclical relationships are so important to the sensitivity of these beings, because within their correct environment they have this incredible sensitivity to the --- PAGE 41 --- Lecture Two Tonal Keynotes and Environment Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 33 other and shifts in the other’s nature, because they can tap into what is the auric field or in this case through touch, through that tactile contact, they can take in such deep information, awareness information in the same way that we understand this and we understand these. And it has to be cyclical. This is how they get to recognize at the deepest level the nature of the other. Here you are, you’re going to visit somebody in their environment and they’re a 5. And you walk in that environment and the moment you make auric contact—as a matter of fact, before your aura, the electromagnetic stimulation—the moment that they make contact with that, they’re taking in a certain database, if you will. Remember, it’s Right. They’re taking in a huge amount of information in that sense. Okay, and then you got and you spend your time with them, whenever that is about, and away you go and then you come back on another day, some other type, cyclical. You’re always going to come back. And this coming back, when you come back the second time, the way in which this 5 is going to take you in is that it’s going to recognize subtleties in the change of your aura and your electromagnetic field that you know nothing about. The subtlest changes are going to be evident. It’s a tremendous capacity of being able to be ready as all Right-ness is, in that sense, to ultimately be able to serve the other. That’s the onus of responsibility. Really, it’s the onus of responsibility. The 6th Tone: Touch All right, 6s are an amazing thing. It is always the transition point, it’s always the place that something new, something different is going to emerge. It’s always above everything else; it’s always very different from what’s before it. I’ve tried to express how profound this touch really is. That is, it’s not just about putting your hand on another person and being able to take in tremendous amount of information. But you can do the same thing within an inanimate object. You can touch an inanimate object and get the same kind of information that a dog gets by sniffing a hydrant. In other words, you can pick up information that was left there. It’s just so incredibly sensitive. One of the things that I think is probably evident in those that carry a 6 environmentally is that they’re probably heavily into cleaning. Most of them are going to be not-self, obviously, and they’re going to be very uncomfortable when things aren’t wiped clean of all of that information that is lying around, even though they won’t be aware of that in that sense. Cyclical Physical Contact To enter into their environment this is about cyclical physical contact; cyclical physical contact. And it is this cyclical physical contact that is going to lay the foundation for what will be the awareness that’s going to impact the cognition and is going to impact the perspective. What we learn in this life is related directly to --- PAGE 42 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 34 whether we're going to be concentrated, periodic, or cyclical in the nature of the relationships that we have. It is going to make an enormous difference to our consciousness; enormous. We’re Here to Live an Acoustic Life Okay, one last thing. Wherever we look we always have a common denominator. And that common denominator is always there, always. And because it’s a common denominator it’s not often something that I point a finger to. But it is something to be clear about. We’re here to live in an acoustic life. And what I mean by that is that if you look at the goal of what the nine-centered being is all about, the nine-centered being is here to communicate. We had the last mutation, the 11-12 mutation that dropped the larynx—a break in the server—we live in a densely acoustic environment because that’s what we’re here for. We are here to communicate. This is what your environment is for. Your environment is to establish communication. It is the key in life. We are here to express our outer authority. And we’re here to express it cognitively. And we’re here to express it through our Throat Center. It’s why we have a Throat Center. This is one of the keys. What I’m doing with you right now, this is the essence of communion, this idea that two people are going to sit together and not say anything to each other and that somehow that's romantic, well, it certainly isn't aware. It isn’t. And it doesn’t mean obviously we have to talk to each other all the time. But is really about grasping what our underlying environment is all about, what cognition is all about. All this cognition that we get to see, all of this cognition gets expressed this way. This is what it's all about. Healthy Relationship Patterns So, of course, that’s always an element that is there, but it’s an obvious. The real key in looking at all of this is not just simply being able to see what it means to have this or that, how that adds a quality. But one of the real keys is to go back to these themes and to understand what they mean in terms of the way in which we are designed to have healthy relationships in our life. This is what a healthy relationship --- PAGE 43 --- Lecture Two Tonal Keynotes and Environment Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 35 looks like. That is, a healthy relationship pattern. Again, this is one of those really important signposts that you get to see. If you’re Left and you’re in the active environment, if you're active in that environment and you happen to be a 1st or 2nd Tone and you have all of these concentrated relationships that you’re active and stimulated with, you know that’s healthy. It is. The same thing is true here in terms of those relationships that are periodic. And again, because we live in a homogenized world, there is always this ridiculous stuff about trying to say for example that the periodic person who is only having connections at random almost, in a sense, that somehow this is a negative and they should be concentrated. This is one of the things that the Right has to deal with that they're supposed to be active and concentrated because this is the primary Left way in which humanity developed in its seven-centered life. We’re still deeply concentrated as a byproduct of the way in which the seven-centered being was involved in the development of our civilization. And yet, this is correct for those for where it’s correct. And the periodic is here and not to come because of guilt, because the periodic is different. The cyclical always comes back; go away, come back; go away, come back; the in-and-out cycle in the process. But these are very, very important signposts, and it takes you back to the essential value of what we look at when we’re looking at the environment. It’s nodal. It's about resonance. We’re here to resonate to the correct environment. We’re here to resonate to the correct way in which we have our relationships with the others. This is what it’s about. And there is a very specific way in which it works; a very specific way. Written question: Is periodic bonds made and broken? Ra: Well, it’s not necessarily; it doesn’t have to be bonds made and broken in that sense, it doesn’t. Periodic is simply periodic. For example, it can in a family where you have not regular or consistent connections with the members of the family, but they’re periodic, they happen at different times, they’re not necessarily regulated or scheduled. Concentrated is always there. Cyclical is a kind of schedule. Here there is no schedule. So you don't have to turn it into something that it’s not, in that sense. Take the broad values that are there and those broad values are really the essential ingredient. And so much of it has to do not so much with the family relationship that --- PAGE 44 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 36 you have, but it really has a great deal to do with all those others, the fractal possibilities that are out there in your life and the way in which it's correct for you to have a social dynamic out of your environment that is actually something that is going to be healthy. The Importance of the Social Dynamic All right, I didn’t get to all your questions; next time. I hope you enjoyed that. I think it is information that is very handy when you're trying to get to a deeper level of explaining environment to the other. But keep in mind the importance of the social dynamic, because this is something that is really a key. There are so many beings that believe that the only way that is correct in the social dynamic is concentrated. And you can see that that arises out of deep fears, survival fears. And you can see as a consequence we have been packed together in concentrated zones on the planet. But this is all the byproduct of Left-ness and it’s created a deep imbalance, which in fact, makes the other four uncomfortable about the way in which they operate and constantly being drawn to the conditioning of the concentrated relationships. And we are all different. We each have our way. All right, well, to all of you, thank you for being here. These evenings are interested; at least for me. I normally never teach this late, but great to have you here. Until next time, all of you, you take care; bye for now. ~ --- PAGE 45 --- Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 37 Lecture Three Environment, Tone and Longevity Hello, welcome to all of you. We get to one of those mystery places, one of those wonderful things about the way human beings have always felt with the fact that we’re designed to deteriorate, the black joke that life is terminal. Of course, everything about being a bio-form, everything about being in one of these kinds of genetic packages is that they truly have a beginning, middle and an end. I think that if you go back into any of the written history of humanity you will get to places where there are those that dream of how to live forever, live a long life, the fountain of youth, whatever the case may be. Most of our history, that is, most of our recorded history was seven-centered beings, Saturnian vehicles, relatively short lives. Longevity for them was something that was really quite unique and special. Longevity for us is something that is a birthright. It is one of the essentials to grasp about the life of the nine-centered being. The life of the nine-centered being is Uranian. That’s a very different kind of vehicle; truly very different. It has a basic life expectancy of 84 years. And not only is that the basic life expectancy, but that is in essence the frame that is really necessary for the fulfillment of the process. It began when I first started doing that for the benefit of people who had a 6th line profile. That is the tripartite life, the process of the nine-centered being. You come into the world, you get your Strategy and Authority, and you get your dietary regimen, you get those two things. And that takes you until you’re 30 years of age. At 30 years of age you get your environment and your environment to your perspective and it leads you to approximately 50, and your Kiron. This is where the flowering is. Longevity is Connected to Environment So, in order for the nine-centered being really to be able to enjoy the full promise of its process, this zone here becomes one that’s enormously important. It’s where this whole theme of longevity comes from. Obvious what we’re going to see is that --- PAGE 46 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 38 longevity is connected to environment. And it says something very interesting about the longevity process is that longevity is established when you get to this point at your Saturn return, this is when you establish the potential for longevity in your life. It means that everything about what it's going to mean to be able to live a full Uranian life begins with grasping how significant environment actually is, because environment is the key. Not only environment the key, but it is in the Prime Node, that connection between the environment and the brain system, that this is where longevity is really determined in that sense, the correct alignment to the environment to itself. And that alignment to the environment obviously is going to reduce resonance. It’s going to make it easier to move along this line of trajectory in the development of one's perspective and ultimately the potential of awareness. So, everything about longevity is going to be rooted here. It's all about the environment. Now, it says something very interesting about this combination because the three of these together—and we began that process last week by looking at the influence of Tone on environment and the way in which you can integrate tonal information into an understanding of the environment. But here you see it in its proper context. That is, here you see one of the ingredients in both alignment to environment and to longevity as a byproduct, because again, whenever we're looking at the way in which we are programmed we are programmed from the Tone upwards. It is the Tone that’s doing the cognitive programming. And it is through the cognition that both the ease with which one can be in the environment and the potential of that longevity are brought together. So, this connection between environment and longevity and Tone is one that’s very, very significant. It also means that—I think some of you were there, going back to my very, very first time in the Ibiza Event when I began to introduce Color. One of the themes of that was remedies that could be related to each of the various Colors. Not so much to take that so literately, but one of the things that’s so obvious to me is that the right sensory environment is something that is aligning, as opposed to healing. It’s really aligning. It’s one of the things that aligns the vehicle to what is, in essence, a healthier process in the way in which they live out their life, because we live out our lives along the storyline along the nodal line. --- PAGE 47 --- Lecture Three Environment, Tone and Longevity Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 39 Caves/1st Tone: Smell So, let’s go into this for a moment and think about it, and think about this relationship. Let’s just start with basics. You have an environment and the environment is caves, so it tells us right away that this is a being that needs to be urban, somebody that needs to have their space, needs to be secure in their space, all the things we know about caves. What we get out of that, aside from the Left-ness and Right-ness for a moment, just looking specifically at the generalized environment, if we’re dealing with let’s say the 1st Tone and we are dealing with the sense of smell, aroma, smell, is something that is either is going to be deeply healthy for this being or very dangerous. And what I mean by that is that if they're not correct then there are things that they're going to take into their body, that sense of smell, whatever they’re going to take in, the negative aspect of that potential, that is going to detrimentally affect the way in which their potential for longevity is there. In other words, this is going to be a very, very important ingredient in maintaining a healthy vehicle, because it's going to be nurturing to the vehicle's longevity. So, it becomes more than just an attachment of a sensory quality to the environment; but recognizing that its relationship is very specific. This is somebody that needs to be very correct, being correct about their environment, the way they enter into what is going to be their environment so that it's going to have this quality that is going to be there. The other thing is that this is going to be a being that is going to be very sensitive to aromas, the aroma environments. And that for example having a job in an environment that the aroma is not right can end up bringing problems to the work and can end up bringing problems to the health and being ground down because there is an element that is incorrect at the deepest level, because after all, again, we’re talking about cognition. Resonance We're talking about something else. I think I always have to remind you, we’re talking about Nodes, so we’re talking about resonance. Everything about resonance is whether or not we’re going to resonate to what is good for us. It’s not like attraction; we’re attracted to what we’re not and it’s all problematic. Resonance is about whether we’re going to resonate to what is correct for us or not. --- PAGE 48 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 40 It’s not like this cave person with 1st Tone has to think about the smells, the aromas that are there. It has to operate correctly according to its Strategy and Authority and then it's going to discover these things. That’s when it’s going to be realized. It’s not like they’re looking for a particular smell, but they will discover it if they are correct. They will also see that the moment that they are comfortable with a certain aromatic quality, that’s something that its consistency is going to be healthy for them as well. And all of that is going to be beneficial for their possibility of being able to fulfill their purpose. Fulfilling One’s Purpose after Kiron We already know, there are not huge gaps in us generationally, we already got that it takes a long time to figure things out on this plane, even when you have such mechanisms as this to look at it. It takes time. And there has to be a place beyond the learning, this place of being and the potential that is there. A correct nine- centered being, by the time that they’re in their 50s, they’re beginning that process of expressing their other authority through their correct process, that this is what they’re going to do to fulfill their purpose on this plane over the predictable 30 odd years that they’ll have in that span between the Kiron and the 84 year cycle of Uranus. You need to have a form that is going to carry you there, a vitality that is going to carry you there. And what we well know about this plane is that everything about the not-self is about meeting resistance. It’s always about meeting resistance. And resistance is what wears things down. It’s what wears lives down. It brings deterioration to them. Now obviously, we live in an age in which after hundreds of years now of the presence of the Uranian vehicle and living as we do still in the Cross of Planning cycle, we have made enormous inroads in being able to maintain these vehicles closer to their potential by actually having relatively speaking easier lives and by having relatively complex diets, not all of us, obviously. It’s made a huge difference. We have enormous numbers of human beings on this planet who are living into their 80s, their 90s, and their 100s. There are thousands of Americans, as an example, thousands, who are over a hundred years old. We are living in a Uranian age. And it doesn’t mean the fact that one has that longevity means that the fulfillment of purpose or all those other things are there, the not-self can live long, too. So much of the good luck/bad luck of the not-self is genetic, after all. The Design External is the Foundation of Your Life But it says something about how important it is for us to be physically vital as we enter into that stage in our lives. It’s clear to me that at my age, and I’m 61, that I don't seem to have a deterioration in my energy level. That is, the commitment to --- PAGE 49 --- Lecture Three Environment, Tone and Longevity Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 41 the work that I do and the schedule I keep and all of those things. And I see very clearly that I don't have this sense of the kind of deterioration that strikes me as diminishing my potential. And I think that is something that is deeply, deeply important for us. After all, there is so much of this to assemble. There is so much deconditioning to go through that this period of post-Kiron is something that can be enormously exciting because it's really here where your cross is intended to determine your life. It’s where all of those possibilities that are promised in anyone’s uniqueness that they have that opportunity to come out. Again, it goes back to very basic things. It goes back to how long have you been in your process, how radical has that process been. There are so many factors as we well know in what it takes to decondition and to align oneself to what is correct. But it is clear to me, and I began with that a couple of years ago in my earlier teaching in PHS that environment is extraordinarily important. You can't place any of these elements on a higher scale than another. It’s not more important than determination because it's a holistic process, all of these ingredients are necessary. But it's also not secondary to anything. And I think that’s something that’s very, very important. It’s the foundation of your life. That’s what the Design external is. It’s the very foundation of your life. And it sets so many things in motion, because this is what your story is all about. This is where it unfolds. The Storyline Beings at the Saturn Return and Ends at the Kiron It’s interesting. I say that a lot now, this storyline and all. But it’s something I have yet had a question about. Maybe I should stay silent and see if you give it to me later, but I doubt if you will. You notice something at the storyline. The storyline begins at your Saturn return and it ends at your Kiron. It’s interesting, isn’t it? The storyline is the nodal track, that interregnum between 30 and 50, that establishing your environment to get to your perspective, because the storyline is a platform for uniqueness. Uniqueness is not scripted in that way. The storyline is how you get there. It is the costuming and performance that unfolds that creates this movement towards what is really liberation, what to the 6th line being is known as coming off the roof. It is leaping into one’s true life. The essential life of the nine-centered being is post- Kiron. This is what all the buildup is about. This is what the storyline leads to. It leads to transformation. That’s its whole process. So, it’s interesting to keep that in mind, that context of seeing storyline for what it is. Again, in the 6th line language is it’s a roof thing. It’s what take the life on its road to set up all of what needs to be embraced and taken in and met, all of those things so that all of the experiential quality of the movement that this becomes the material of the transformed life, the life that steps beyond the storyline, the life that steps onto the wheel, steps onto the cross, takes up one’s costume, allows ones authority --- PAGE 50 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 42 to move them effortlessly through their process. It’s part of all of the magic of what is potential in us as nine-centered beings. So, I think it’s one of those things to see that if we’re going to get beyond the storyline, if we’re going to reach that phase in our life where we can experience the transformed process, where we have all of the tools and the maturity and the awareness to be able to enjoy what it is to be a differentiated being we have to be physically healthy. It isn’t going to be any fun if you’re not physically healthy. Tonal Quality of the Environment is a Key to Longevity And this whole thing about longevity, this is a major, major health issue. It’s what longevity is all about. You can't get there unless there is this fundamental well-being and what we get to see environmentally is that there are sensory qualities to that. There are. I mentioned last week in talking about the 2nd Tone and the need for fresh air—it’s not fresh air, it’s really movement of air—to really grasp how a stuffy environment can be terminal for this person, how it eats away at them, how it brings resistance into their life. In other words, to begin to see that the tonal quality of the environment is something to see in relationship as a signposts to whatever the longevity is going to be about, one of the keys to what the longevity is about. The stimulation of outer vision, the visual simulations that need to be there, that those visual simulations are in fact healthy for that being in the long run. It’s the kind of person that they get locked up in a cell, they really go mad. It’s so interesting to grasp that longevity is so deeply connected to the maia. It’s the way in which our form principle integrates with the physical maia. And that there are certain qualities in the maia, what we would call sensory qualities in the maia, that are fundamentally healthy depending on your design. And that this very nurturing of that environment is what actually allows the vehicle to live an extended and healthy life. So, environment becomes something that is really deeply significant. I’ve watched this now for many, many years. I’ve watched myself get more and more radical in the way in which I present these aspects in the sense that I’m past the theoretical phase when it comes to the basics of dietary regimen and environment. They are just simply obvious keys in transforming the life. And there’s no point in placing them as some carrot to an ongoing process. They’re essential ingredients for people in life. There is no question that they're not going to do you any good unless you’re committed to your Strategy and Authority. They’re just not. They can do this and that, but in the end without Strategy and Authority with the mind ruling the life there is no way one is going to be fulfilled on this plane. And ultimately, it isn’t going to be a panacea for keeping one healthy, because we are a holistic being. It’s all a balance, and we are not healthy if we are not operating cognitively. We’re just not. --- PAGE 51 --- Lecture Three Environment, Tone and Longevity Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 43 After all, that’s the only thing that we’re about. We’re here for cognition. We’re not here for anything else. Important to Let Others Know the Significance of Environment So, one of those things to really look at when you're dealing with people that know and people that are involved in their experiment is to give them that help of being able to see how significant their environment is for them. Obviously, it’s not something that they can do unless it's correct for them to do, that it’s something that you can ask them or invite them or inform them or whatever the case may be. But it is something that is essential for them to know in the same way that their dietary regimen is something that should be aware of. There is always that part of me—I have two activations in the gate of being cautious—there is always that part of me that says that you need to add the disclaimers to that. That is, dietary regimen is not a fad. It’s a way of life. And as a way of life is something that you can only make a commitment to if it’s really correct for you to do so. Environment is the same thing. That is, it is something to deeply respect, how important it is for the vehicle and not something that is a game to be played out. These are aspects that are really life altering if it’s correct for you to embrace them. More and more I see that as professionals working with this knowledge, how important it is to make sure that at least the rudimentary level of this information, both dietary regimen and environment are some that the people that you deal with are aware of. So, it’s something that is there, that a seed is planted so that when they are ready that they can learn more, that they can perhaps get involved in that process. I think for those people that get into Human Design that are really serious in their process, I think it’s something that’s deeply beneficial for them. It certainly is going to help in the cleansing process. It doesn’t speed it up, by the way. There is this illusion that by following your dietary regimen and being in the right environment that you’re going to speed up the seven-year cellular process. Well, you don’t speed that up. It still takes seven years from when somebody enters into their experiment to go through that deconditioning process, the cellular process. But what it does do is that it really makes a huge difference in both the budding awareness, that is, it really transforms cognitively the way one operates, that there is access to the cognition. You’re in an environment that’s more nurturing. It’s going to bring forces into your life that are going to be more beneficial to you. It’s going to change so many things about the way in which you physically feel. And obviously, it’s going to heighten your sensory capacity. So, there are many advantages of taking this approach early in one’s process. --- PAGE 52 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 44 A Caution as Professionals The only thing that I caution you as professionals is that you really assess that person carefully to make sure that—there are a lot of people that show enthusiasm for things that they’re not ready for them, because both of these things are quite a step. It would seem on the surface that dietary regimen is a bigger jump, because it’s quite a commitment to transform your diet. But I think most people who follow their PHS know that it’s so natural once you get over the mental part of getting there, you realize that it's so normal for you that it’s not a big deal. But environment is something else, because environment is very demanding. It can really change the way in which you look at your interactions. If you’re a mountain person you don't always have to have to be on mountain, obviously, and can’t always be on the mountain. But what that means is that when you're not on the mountain, when you’re not on the high ground, that you have to be very careful about what you interact with when you’re not there, because those interactions are no guarantee that they’re correct for you. And even if you enter into those things correctly, there are still disadvantages for you in terms of the way in which the influence of the other is going to impact you, because there is basic protection that’s not there because you’re not in the correct environment. The other thing is that it’s more physically taxing even in a correct bond to be with that person away from your environment than to be with that same person in your environment. So, environment really makes a difference. And it’s very specific. It takes somebody being in a stage in their process where they’re really ready for such a deep experiment, because in essence that’s really what it is. Environment is Established after 30 years of Correct Strategy and Authority When I began to talk about the nature of environment, because it is something that is only supposed to be established after 30 years of operating according to your Strategy and Authority and following your dietary regimen, think about that. The ideal, the nine-centered being, the baby that’s raised according to their Strategy and Authority, following its dietary regimen, it’s only at its Saturn return that environment becomes the place that it has to be. Now, following your Strategy and Authority for 30 years is not something that anyone has done, including myself; none of us. So, there is a quality to this environment that we’re not fully connecting to. It's very difficult in many cases to be fully connected to it, because you can see how long a process it is until you get to that place where you're ready for your environment and you’re ready for your story to unfold. --- PAGE 53 --- Lecture Three Environment, Tone and Longevity Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 45 It’s why I encourage the radicalization. That is, get people involved in their dietary regimen and get them involved in their environment so that they're going to pick up bits and pieces of essential things that they can take in in this stage in their process. But in fact, it's actually quite a long process. I'm very curious to see—it’s going to be 23 years in January and that means sometime in my late 60s I will have had 30 years of this process. I will actually do it according to an actual Saturn cycle and it will be interesting to see if there's anything different. And I assume, by the way, that there certainly will be, because I think that’s the natural timetable. It doesn't mean that we cannot get value from it, obviously. It just means that we need to see it in its content. Somebody who is raised correctly, by the time they get to their Saturn return, they are ready for their environment. They will naturally find it. It’s not like you would have to tell them what it is. They would just naturally go there. They’re following their Strategy and Authority, they’re correct and they will naturally get there. So, we’re pushing the envelope on several fronts. There are so many people that are trying to establish their true perspective and at the same time still in their basic deconditioning process. It can be difficult and it can be confusing at times. But again, it goes back to seeing that environment is one of those magical things that is visible to us in the mechanics. It gives us this incredible potential of being able to align ourselves to what is going to foster our long-term well-being. Environment Nurtures and Protects I don't think that there is anything more important. I think if you ask most human beings what they would wish for, in the top three all of them is going to be health and most of them it will be first. And again, this is something that is so deeply connected to our environment. So, the stronger your connection to your environment, the better it is going to be for you in the long run and certainly is going to be very transforming in terms of the long-term effect in your relationship with others, because this is really where the environment is protecting you. To be environmentally correct means that you're not just protecting your vehicle from the negative of the other, but you're also talking about this at an immune system level and a biological level. There are so many things that are important about being in your own environment, because that's an environment that is nurturing your well-being and at the same time protecting you. It is a larger protective system that is surrounding you in that sense. So, it’s very, very important not simply to see all these various elements, because they're all helpful to see the relationship tonally to grasp what that means for that being and to understand that we need consistency in our environments. If you look at the history of the not-self human, there's no consistency in their environments. There is just this constant evolution and transformation and change. It’s like the redecorating fever. There is constant change and change. --- PAGE 54 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 46 The Need for Consistent Relationships in One’s Environment Yet, one of the things that is so obvious to me about longevity and well-being is the consistency of your relationship to your environment. This is something that deeply needs to be stable. And the more stable your environment the more likely it is that you are going to benefit physically from that. And I think that those beings who dabble with their environment I think they become quite vulnerable, because it is taking away from the capacity to really be able to be vital late into one's life, because whenever you're moving away from your environment you are leaving behind so much of what protects you from resistance. It's interesting that human beings are nomadic. There is enormous amount of movement that takes place in the world. It is a kind of pulse of the chaos that is out there. One of the things about correctness is that it’s very, very consistent, that consistent dietary regimen, the consistent environment that leads to the consistent perspective that fosters that consistent awareness. It’s really about stability and grounding. This is what inner authority is here to bring us. It’s here to bring us all of those things that we need, the peace, the satisfaction, the success, the surprise. This is what it’s there for. So, this whole area of working with environment with people is something that really needs to take on another level of focus in the sense that it’s really important to get the message across. Okay, I said that I would open up to some questions and that is precisely what I'm going to do. I know that Kumud you had a question and Marina, I think yesterday I didn’t get a chance to open that up and you had a question, so please feel free to ask your questions. Active/Passive Environments Question: Well, I was wondering for example I’m an active cave environment and I’m a design with no motors. And I have a friend, a Generator, with two motors and two channels connecting the Root to the Spleen whose is a passive, actually kitchens. I wonder what the difference is. It almost evens out except it feels like there is a kind of tension in me and when I look at that person there this is kind of relaxation, but they certainly have to burn some of that energy. Did that make a question? Ra: (Laughing) I don’t know if that made a question, Kumud, it was interesting anyway. I enjoyed listening to it. I think one of the things about passive is that it can be taken too literally. It’s a great keynote because it can be deconstructed. I like the modern terminology of laid-back. The Right environment nurtures a laid- back tension-free process. --- PAGE 55 --- Lecture Three Environment, Tone and Longevity Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 47 Now, that doesn’t mean that there can’t be activity. There can be activity. But it’s activity that is in that kind of feel, that kind of quality. It’s much more laid-back. There isn’t the same tension in that. And again, it depends on what it is. A classic passive activity is knitting. I can’t think of a better example right now. But it’s a classic passive activity. And it's very active. It’s using both hands, which means it's having an impact on the heart. It’s using both sides of the brain. There are all kinds of things that are going on. And yet at the same time, it is a very laid-back relaxing thing. So, the way in which these beings use their energy, and obviously in dealing with somebody who is a powerful Generator, as an example, they’re going to need to find those kinds of outlets in which using the energy isn't something that is cranking them up and bringing tension into their process, but it’s actually doing the other, using the energy is relaxing and encourages the more laid-back experience in the environment. Now, I don’t know if that was an answer to your question. Active/Passive Knitting Question: I love knitting and I’m active with no motors, would I knit differently to a passive knitter? Ra: Oh yes, sure, because you’re going to get more tense. That is, tense in the sense that the passive knitter is going to get much less upset about something that goes wrong, because again, it’s active so it’s bringing a focus and it’s bringing a strategy. The strategy is that though the knitting itself is an interesting thing, it’s where the knitting is going that matters and it all ends up with a strategy and agenda of what it’s going to have to look like and where it’s going to have to be at the end and any problems then become something that more focus is put to it, why is the problem there, how do I fix it; it goes on and on. 6th Tone Laid-backness Question: Well, just in terms of the Tones would a 6th Tone have a whole different quality of laid back-ness? Does it have any degradation? Does a 4th Tone passive look a little bit tense? Ra: (laughing) The touch is interesting. The classic example of a laid-back 6th Tone is seven teenagers lying on the same sofa watching a movie. I don’t know whether you enjoyed that, but nonetheless, because that’s that it’s like. They need to have physical contact, and obviously because they are Right, this is always calling for somebody to tap into their resource. People with 6th Tone are very good in crowded environments. They’re very good in those environments where you have unintentional physical contact. It’s the kind of things that they can really enjoy. They’re very different. And when you place that within the context of the environment itself, one of the things about that is these are --- PAGE 56 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 48 beings that need to be very, very careful about the kinds of things that they have around them, that they have physical contact with. And the kinds of things that because this is a harmony to the outer vision, the kinds of things that are around them that are part of—like the décor. For example, if you’re a touch person, you're going to be very, very sensitive to, for example, who made your furniture. If your furniture was carved in some slave factory somewhere on the planet, you’re going to get the whole frequency. So you have to be very, very careful about what they call the baraka, the buried information that’s in so much of the inanimate. They have other issues. And it's this tactile frequency, when that’s stable for them in their life then their—it always reminds me of those people that go to Bali on vacation and they always come back with masks. It’s a standing joke amongst the Balinese that this is the way they get rid of their demons, because the masks are all demon masks. And there all these tourists buying these demon masks and taking them home and hanging them on the wall in the assumption that it’s decorative. And it isn’t. It carries energy. And it carries information. It can be very disturbing. It can end up being very disturbing to somebody in that environment. The 6th Tone people are very aware of that. That’s one of their ingredients. Active Mountains - 1st and 2nd Tones Written question: Ra, could you re-tell some qualities of active mountains in connection with tone 1 and 2, the concentrated? Ra: Active mountains in terms of Tones 1 and 2—again 1 and 2 is the same splenic story. We’re talking about smell. Mountain people that are 2nd Tone, that’s one of those things that’s really a natural. You have all kinds of those that exist in various combinations. But one of the most important things for taste people is air movement. They’re invariably people that love the wind, because it’s carrying information and the 2nd Tone is particularly interesting in terms of mountains because obviously this is a landscape that is automatically aligned with winds. So, it’s interesting at that level. Again, you can be in certain mountain ranges where the basic plant life carries a certain kind of aroma that is going to be very different from another kind of environment. So, it’s not just simply a matter of the high ground, but it’s the high ground with the olfactory quality that is most satisfying. Again, it’s not a decision. It’s something that that you arrive at. This is the most important thing about environment and about the qualities in the environment. I don’t teach you these things so you can select them. I teach you these things so that you can experience them becoming correct for you, because ultimately in our correctness we get all of that. It becomes natural for us to have that. It’s the way that it unfolds. --- PAGE 57 --- Lecture Three Environment, Tone and Longevity Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 49 Sensitivity to the Inanimate Question: So Ra, you talk about the 6th Tone and the 5th Tone. I have the 6th Tone for the conscious Sun and the 6th Tone for both Nodes and for my unconscious Sun/Earth. I am very sensitive to the actual energy of objects. Now, it could be my 25th gate, I don’t know. So I just was always wondering if—especially antique stores are very difficult for me to go in because a lot of times I will go in there and I just will touch one thing and I just say to my husband, we have got to leave this place right now. Ra: There’s no question the 6th Tone has something to do with that, obviously. But it’s really the 25th gate. It is the gate of the inanimate. I have the same thing. I can remember years ago, a long, long time ago, my partner and I were looking for a finca, an old country house. We went up to a really beautiful house. It has an incredible setting. I was really taken by the whole quality of the landscape of it. And then I went into this place and the moment I went in—it wasn’t just me, it was both of us; we both have the 25th gate, we both have the channel—the moment that both of us went in there was the moment that we both looked at each other and knew we had to leave. A couple of years later we found out that in that house two generations ago the owner’s grandfather committed suicide, hung himself in the foyer of the house. That’s where we had stepped in. Even though that even had probably taken place 50 or 60 years before, the frequency was still there. And this is a 25 thing, because the 25 is deeply, deeply connected to the inanimate. It is the inanimate gate. So, when you add the 6th Tone to that, you really increase the frequency. Can Baraka be Cleaned Written question: Can baraka being cleaned? Ra: Can baraka be cleaned? Well, I’ve heard everything. You burn sage, you burn rosemary, you do this, and you do that. I don't think that you can actually remove it. I don’t. It’s just there. It accumulates. We live in a neutrino ocean and everything that transpires in an environment passes through the walls, the furniture, the “this,” the “that.” The reality is that every single atom on this planet is still here. The stuff that made Beethoven and Mozart is still floating around. We recycle everything. So, no, I don't think that you can get rid of it. I think it’s diminished the less you notice it. It’s like you go to Lourdes or the Wailing Wall, you have heightened baraka because you constantly have people going there and reinforcing the baraka itself. But in a place like that, there's somebody living there now, there’ll be people that will move in that ever have a sense of that, because it’s just not in their design to pick up those kinds of frequencies. --- PAGE 58 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 50 Impact through Link Nodes Written question: Ra, do you have any tonal impact through the link nodes? I have 1st tone PSN and am deeply sensitive to the smell in my cave, despite my fourth tone design Nodes. Ra: Well, there is tonal impact to Link Nodes because they are part of the nodal configurations, so the Design Link Node is part of the environment, and yes, it is certainly impacted. The Process to Awareness Question: So, one thing, because I have been changing up my experiment since last August, one thing that I’m finding is that it’s easier to sense my correct environment by using my view. It’s been kind of startling once I realized it. It’s almost like—I had one evening an entire flashback of me doing things virtually and using my imagination because I have the 4th Tone in my external Nodes for the view and then the 5th Tone with the environment. I’m finding that my outer authority helps me find my environment better than trying to find my environment and letting my outer authority happen. Am I going about that backwards? Ra: Oh, there is no frontwards or backwards in any of that. It’s the way in which it evolves in your process. It’s like all of you; you’ve all taken in so much of this knowledge and processing it through your experiment. The moment that you're able to rely on your perspective to align you, you’ve already taken an enormous step forward in awareness. It really doesn’t matter which way consciously you see the process operating. We’re all going to be unique in the way in which this unfolds, after all. Where Cognition Gets Stored Question: Ra, when you talk about this whole evolutionary place in this being cognitive where does that get stored? I’ve been wanting to ask that. Do we take it with us with the Personality Crystals? Is it out there in the neutrinos? Ra: It’s in the Personality Crystal; it’s in the crystal itself. The crystal is still turning the ocean, the ocean is deep and wide and it's made up of enormous amounts of information. The thing that I find so fascinating about passenger consciousness is that all of the stuff that we do, all of this refinement that we go through in looking at the way in which all of these things work are really taking us to that unique filtering. It obviously seems to be what has happened. You well know that for me there is no intent in all of this. So, what has happened is this incredible possibility of true cognition, this incredible possibility to transcend the mechanism itself. --- PAGE 59 --- Lecture Three Environment, Tone and Longevity Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 51 It’s so fascinating to think that the way we try to see all of these things, that the real magic is this relationship between the nature of atomics and dark matter. There is this incredible thing that’s at work. Atomics bring light, possibility, change, transformation. The dark matter is the form. It makes it all possible. It gives it all its shape. It integrates everything together. And the neutrino operates back and forth. These crystals of conscious don’t belong to our world. They don’t belong to the world of atomics. They don’t belong to stars and planets and galaxies and trees and all of that. They don’t. The very essence of possibility is what these crystals are made of. There is no language for me to describe the longing, the longing of possibility to suddenly be realized because this is basically what’s happen over the last several million years with this incredible rapid evolution of our kind. We’re really at the place where the possibilities of the bio-form are fully there. It is the return to Eden. The Concentrated, Periodic and Cyclical Written question: Last week you explained the concentrated, the periodic and the cyclical. Is the concentrated similar to 'always', the periodic to 'one time/only once' and the cyclical similar to 'sometimes/or repetitive', e.g, the way you guide your relationships?? Ra: Elfriede, your question about the concentrated, periodic and cyclical, oh yes, you’re quite correct in what you’re seeing. Cross of Individualism’s DNA Written question: This is a far out there question - You have talked about that Left Cross of individualism holds in them something that needs re-awakened in our DNA. Do you think that these folks are re-awakening our Receptivity? Ra: About the Cross of Individualism, I honest don’t know. I think that they’re a bridge from the past to the future. I think you can only see them as a whole, if I can put it that way. If you can see all of them as their place down through the Variables, basically it’s a role of maintaining continuity. It is civilization and mutation. It’s the whole process. And we’re really at the mutation part of that process, something rather exciting. Anyway, I enjoyed your questions, all these good ones. To all of you, I hope you enjoyed that. Until next week, you all take care. Bye for now. ~ --- PAGE 60 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 53 Lecture Four Environment, Orientation and Relationships Hello and welcome to all of you. We continue our story today. We’re going to look at something interesting. That is, we're going to look at Base orientation as it operates from the Design side. And the way in which it is an intrinsic factor in our long-term well-being is having relationships to those that we have an orientation to. And it isn’t always easy because after all this is only one-half of the story. We’re dealing with the Design side. Something I’ve been doing in Post Graduate Rave Psychology is looking at Base orientation and the way in which it attracts us to the Personalities of the other. Here we’re going to look at the attraction to the body of the other. We often have very complex relationships with other human beings and this is something that is evident through Base orientation where you can have a Personality that’s very much attuned to the other while at the same time they don’t have enough physical connection to each other at all, or vice versa. So, we have these interesting complexities that arise in the nature of our relationships as a byproduct of that. A Mother and Daughter Relationship Let's take a look. I’m going to be using the same illustrations that I'm using in Post Graduate Rave Psychology, particularly for any of you who are not a part of that who ultimately will get to look at that information when it’s eventually published as a Jovian Digital Book, you can see that relationship from both sides. So we’re going to deal with a relationship of a mother and daughter. The first thing to always keep in mind whenever you're doing any kind of analytical work in Human Design that just because you have deep substructure knowledge doesn't mean that you can afford not to see what’s there in the design. It’s something that I always stress because one of the essential ingredients to being good at this job is being able to look at this design and being able to see what’s there. --- PAGE 62 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 54 The Mother: Single Definition Manifesting Generator There are obvious things. We’re dealing with a single definition, a Manifesting Generator. One of the themes for me always is to look at openness because openness really dictates the dilemmas, the seductions that normally overwhelm lives. As a single definition we know that the centers are paramount in terms of their conditioning capacity. And we have five open centers in this design, including the open Heart Center in combination with the open emotional and open splenic centers. So, you have some major conditioning elements that are there. This is a being by their very design that is focused on being busy with leadership, in structuring. This is their drive. At the same time, we see that they have things that they think they have to prove and things that they avoid and truths that they avoid. They’ve got bad habits that they hold on to. They’re always under pressure. They’ve got two open pressure centers. This is the mother in this relationship so you can see that the only really maternal aspect that’s here in this design is the 27. And it is the mother/father nourishment line, so that there is this nourishment capacity that is there. But, it’s very much tied up in this single definition; nourishment through structuring, nourishment through leadership and nourishment through activity, these kinds of things that are rooted in the way in which the 25 is going to be expressed. --- PAGE 63 --- Lecture Four Environment, Orientation and Relationships Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 55 But the fact is that you have a being that’s going to be very absorbed in their process, very absorbed in doing this and at the same time living it out through their openness. Obviously, there are other facts that are at work and we’ll obviously take a look at the structure as we move forward. But I just sort of wanted to introduce you to the characters in the play. The Daughter: Single Definition Pure Emotional Generator Here’s the child, a daughter. Again, you can see we’ve got a single definition, very powerful single definition. That is, three motors connected to each other, the Heart Center, the emotional system along with the Sacral. This is a pure emotional sacral being. Obviously, it’s a very powerful emotional system. It’s something that immediately when you’re thinking about relationships here is this open emotional system and here is this open Heart Center, so you’ve got this very, very open zone there. The moment that you see the daughter, right away this is what you’re going to get. It’s one of the standing jokes that I have with my partner and I who are both unemotional and do not define or activate each other’s emotional system that we had two emotional children. I guess the program has a sense of humor. I assume --- PAGE 64 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 56 that’s the way it works. But anyway, you can or cannot see the sense of humor in this particular configuration. You’re also dealing with a great deal of openness. That is, you’ve got six centers that are open, you’ve got an undefined G Center, totally undefined G Center, which means they’re very susceptible to other people telling them where they’ll find love and what’s the right place for them, never really knowing for sure for themselves. And an open Throat, so there is always this drive to look for attention. When you look at the mother’s configuration, the mother’s Spleen, so you’ve got a child that’s going to be very insecure, going to be holding on to its mother’s Spleen, and yet at the same time you have a mother that isn’t really going to be there all the time. This is trying to hold on to this mother; she has her own insecurities in all of that. Of course, the openness that is here intellectually. Undefined Ajna Children that have open minds with parents that have defined minds, those ironies. My partner and I have very fixed minds and we have two children that have very open minds. Again, this is the humor in the program. The dilemma for them is that they get wired that way. In other words, they become very dependent on the conditioning of the way in which the thinking process operates in order for them to feel secure. If you’ve got an open Ajna Center you’re always dealing with the uncertainty principle. You’re never really certain that you're certain even though there are times you’re going to pretend that you’re certain in order not to lose face. Children with undefined Ajna Centers do not want to be embarrassed intellectually. This is something that’s very painful for them. It is something that is bothersome deep into adulthood. It’s why the not-self open Ajna Center is always trying to assert its certainty in order not to deal with embarrassment, not to deal with their recognition within themselves that there is nothing mental that they truly hold onto. Mother Daughter --- PAGE 65 --- Lecture Four Environment, Orientation and Relationships Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 57 43/23 Compromise It's about nurturing their intellectuality. That is, it is obviously not a negative to have an undefined center. It is place ultimately of wisdom. Clearly people with undefined Ajna Centers are the ones that can tell whether a concept is of any use or not. That ultimately is the wisdom. However, for a child being conditioned by a mother that has the 43/23, you can tell right away that you’re going to have a compromise that is going to be there in the relationship. It is just one of those themes that are going to be there. It’s a little difficult to see in this, but there's the compromise, and how powerful that compromise is going to be. 53/42 Electromagnetic There is a lot of electromagnetism that’s there in the relationship. There’s no question that there is always going to be a mutual attraction-repulsion that’s going to keep the relationship sparking. The child brings all of the social mechanisms; the family, the tribe, the tribal responsibilities, a 59/6 able to break into the mother’s aura even when the mother doesn’t want to have her aura broken into. There are very strong connections that are there. And there is an electromagnetic in the 53/42 which is often the sign of relationships that can have a very deep bond, yet relationships that can really be impacted in that place, the child always wanting to be free and the mother always waiting for the --- PAGE 66 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 58 child to grow up, the mother from the place of maturity and the child from the place of freedom. There are so many things that are there just to remind you about what is there on the surface. The one compromise is here. So there are always going to be this dilemma of the mother insisting in her own way that only her way to structure and explain is correct. That could become quite a burden in a life. The Link Nodes Okay, let’s take it another step. How quickly levels of Design change, particularly when you move back into the AI configuration. All right, our story is about the Link Nodes. This is what our story is about and first of all, where the Link Nodes are. We’re dealing with Variable. The Link Nodes are part of the externals in the Variable. That is, the Independent Variable made up of the four Nodes. It is here where the real life is written. I’ve divided them here. That is, the spacing here between the Nodes and Sun/Earth. The Sun/Earth above is waiting for its life. It is the brain system and the program for the vehicle, but it’s waiting for a life to live. And everything about the life to live is there in the storyline that is here in this Independent Variable. Key aspects of the Independent Variable are the Link Nodes. --- PAGE 67 --- Lecture Four Environment, Orientation and Relationships Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 59 Now, we’re looking at the Design side, so we’re looking at linkage that is related to form principle. So what we're looking at is what is going to be the linkage between this Node of the mother, the Link Node of the mother. Here’s the mother’s design over here. And this Link Node, which you can see I’ve also placed over here, the relationship this Link Node has to the design Sun/Earth, to the Dependent Variable of the child. In other words, this is a physical linkage that we're looking at. And it is a physical linkage that we’re looking at in relationship to Base orientation. So that you can see here that the Node that is coming from the mother’s Link Node, the Base orientation here, you can see that it is a 2. You can see the 2 up here in the diagram of the Base construct on the Design side. And then when you look over here and you look at the Sun/Earths you can see that they’re 1. So, this is the linkage that is going to be there between the mother and the child. --- PAGE 68 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 60 Ideal Linkage is Pure Resonance Now, the ideal linkage is pure resonance; in other words, exactly the same. So, in this case, for example, the child would have a Sun/Earth that was 2nd Base. This would be a pure connection. This is the strongest physical connection that you have to another. And by the way, it doesn't mean it's reciprocated. It doesn’t. It’s one of the things that’s so interesting about all the possibilities of all the different kinds of relationships and all the nuances that are there. Some will outweigh others. A Personality resonance in the same context between these two would act as a balance in the way in which they particularly connect to each other. But it also tells you something. In other words, that the mother, that her physical interest in the child, her physical connection to the child is one that is not a resonance, but there is a connection. And the connection is you can see here that there is a connection between the 1 and the 2. And one of the interesting things about looking into Base theory, and again, if you need references go back to History of Geometry, is that the relationships between the aspects on the corners, the Bases in the corners, that there is a quality, a force if you will, a quality that connects them. Keynote: Speed In this case, you can see the keynote is speed. One of the interesting things about their physical relationship with each other is that the primary physical relationship for the mother is not the thing. But there is this connection. And this connection represents in a way a speeding up of processes. In other words, it can be very good for the development of the child. For example, the mother is rooted in—the whole story between them is between the 42 and the 53, this thing about moving towards maturity, speeding things up. Again, quite a natural thing in terms of the way in which two Generators dealing with each other in terms of the energy relationship and the energy connection to each other. --- PAGE 69 --- Lecture Four Environment, Orientation and Relationships Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 61 What’s important is that they're connecting to each other in a secondary way. The child is rooted in these themes. The mother is much more interested in anything other than the body. It’s interested in mind. It’s interested in brain in that sense, in the context of Design. It’s not really interested in the other being as a physical connection. What I mean by that is this is not going to be a touchy-feely relationship, at least in terms of what the mother brings physically to the connection to the child. It's not that compelling. If it was at the Personality side I would talk about it being not that interesting. Here it’s about compelling. You know what that's like when you meet another form where there is just a very powerful physical connection. This is when you’re really meeting the resonance. And of course, meeting the resonance, when the resonance works both ways you have two form principles that have a potential of being quite deeply connected to each other at the physical level. Again, that’s not saying what their whole relationship is. It’s not saying what the lunar and planetary resonance is to each other, the way in which they process all of that, the unique ways in which they connect to each other on all the various levels. But it is one of those ingredients that is very significant physically. --- PAGE 70 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 62 What is Not There is Powerful By the way, it doesn't mean that the relationship has to be a bad one because of that. There is always a tendency to see if it's not the resonance then there must be a problem, because it's not that. The only thing that becomes a curiosity is what’s not there, because what’s not there is incredibly powerful. In other words, here you are the mother and what you're looking for is that 2, what you are. And the one thing you have no real connection to is this over here. You don’t. This is one of the things about understanding the way Base works, it’s not just what’s there, it’s also what is not there and what you can't connect to at all. So, there is a connection that is at work here. But what we're looking at now is just only the mother’s way in which the mother physically connects to the child. Not a Prime Physical Connection Here we have the other story. It’s the 59th gate; it’s already the gate of intimacy. You can see that in the mother's example you’re dealing with the 20th gate, you’re dealing with an existential phenomena, something that's very quick, that’s right there in the moment. Yet, it’s a very different kind of thing that here it is the physical intimacy. This is something that is a very powerful marker in this being, and is looking for that. The child is a 5, 5th Base, so here’s the child. And here is the mother and the mother is a 4 over here. So there is again a very similar kind of connection. It’s not a resonance. But there is a connection. It’s also interesting that you see that the four corners, in that sense, of the Base construct are there in the way in which they're connecting to each other. But it’s not a prime physical connection. So that’s not what they're going to feel for each other. It’s an interesting thing. If you have—I was about to say something that’s actually quite inaccurate—we have a real dilemma here that needs to be articulated at this point. It has to do with birth time, because I was about to say it would be great to see the chart of your parents and be able to see what the actual orientation was, because it would be fascinating. My mother's chart is plus or minus fifteen minutes anyway and I have no chart of my father. Again, so many charts are so unreliable. I can certainly look at that relationship between myself and my children because we’re all fortunate enough to have good time. And in the case of my children, because I’m plus or minus probably a minute, in the case of my children it’s accurate probably within five seconds. As we’re moving forward these are the kinds of things that are going to be very helpful, particularly in the proper development of a nine-centered being. It is always my deepest interest, and I think that Base orientation as a theme anyway is --- PAGE 71 --- Lecture Four Environment, Orientation and Relationships Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 63 something that is there to serve relationships. The only reason why we even look at Base orientation is that it is about relationships, it’s about the way we connect to the other, but at the Personality level or at the Design level it is the story. The Way Storyline Unfolds That’s the thing that’s so fascinating about the way the storyline unfolds. For us it’s very different because I don’t think that until maybe 30, 40 years into Design do you really perhaps get to see what’s on the other side of storyline. I think we all, those of us born conditioned, I think we really just live storyline. It is only natural, because it’s a very special state. The proper development of the nine-centered being, the first Saturn cycle is proper nutrition and operating correctly as themselves. It’s only at the Saturn that storyline unfolds, begins to unfold. And at the Kiron it’s not so much that the storyline ends as the result of the storyline is what flowers. That’s what the storyline is all about. It’s the way, if I can put that in a spiritual/mystical context that each of us have uniquely. That is, that’s really what the storyline really represents is our unique way to get to the flowering of our awareness and the fulfillment of our process in this life. Link Nodes Point to Who is Correct for Us Whenever you’re looking at the Independent Variable you’re really looking at something that is extraordinary. And Link Nodes, aside from the dynamic that they provide in terms of holding us together in this illusion that they are key elements, they’re key elements in linkage, in what gives us our sense of wholeness and our spirit in this life. But more than that in a sense is that they really point clearly to who's correct for us. If you go back to my earliest teachings in environment, when I started my process of teaching environment I had not a deep enough respect for what I was dealing with in the sense that it was far more profound than I had first had grasped. Environment is an incredible thing. There are so many things that operate out of it, the longevity, the quality of life, the physical environment itself, and the fact that this is the physical foundation of the way in which our life unfolds in its relationship to the other. That it’s the environment that nurtures the beneficial relationships that are essential to our well-being and the fulfillment of our story. Genetic Fractals So that when you’re dealing with the Base orientation that is there in the Link Node, you’re really looking at what I look at as genetic fractals. What I mean by that is its biological connections. They’re biological connections. We’re all related; no joke in the actual sense of it. We are all related as a species, obviously. And we all go back --- PAGE 72 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 64 to lines that cross and all of that stuff. There is this incredible connection that is there between us. When we’re looking at Base orientation from the Design side, we're looking at a biological genetic orientation to the other. It is a connection that is in the blood. It’s very different from the way in which we orient to the other in terms of Personality. That is something quite different. We’re orienting to the way in which the crystal operates, the way in which the crystal filters. We’re orienting to those who have the potential of outer authority that is both something that they can deliver and something that they can receive. It is very different on the Design side. You’re not connected to something that is beyond the form. You're connected to something that is inherent in the form. If we were to do one of these family trees and we were able to access all information, I guarantee that every single one of us is related to each other. And you may not have to go back that many generations. It’s just something that’s so fascinating about the underlying biological connections that are there between human beings. They’re just there. And it’s one of the things that you're seeing here in terms of the way Base orientation is operating on the Design side. When you're resonating according to your Base orientation, you’re really resonating to something that deeply, deeply familiar. There is a gene pool connection in all of that. And it is one of the ways in which the correctness of being transcends the genetic imperative. We’re dealing with a Node, after all. We’re dealing with resonance. We’re dealing with the theme of resonating to what is correct for us. That resonance is to sameness, not difference. We’re here to resonate to the true Base. That’s why I say the relationship between the mother and the daughter, the fact that neither resonates to each other at the Base level regardless of their connection to each other, the secondary connection that at least gives them a way in which they can relate to each other, but not a close physical bond that gets established between them. How interesting it is to see what that brings and yet at the same time the fact that somebody is your parent doesn't mean that you have a deep connection to them at the physical level. It’s something that is both surprising and fascinating. Obviously, we have genetic material that we share in common with our parents. There’s no question about that. But what aspect of our genetic construct is differentiated to resonate to a very, very specific group. And not all of them are going to work for obvious reasons. The fact is that the resonance at the Design side without some kind of complementary process on the Personality side and all the other things that come into consideration. There are many, many things that make this up. But there is a very precise group that we connect to that carries this ancient sameness. And with it I assume a lot of information that gets shared that is never really consciously worked with. It’s all taking place on the Design side. It’s all deep under the surface. But there is a continuity, a very ancient storyline that unfolds when you physically meet resonance. It’s something to see. --- PAGE 73 --- Lecture Four Environment, Orientation and Relationships Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 65 All Aspects Need to be Synthesized So, it’s something for you to investigate. I know that many of you have really terrific chart collections. This is one of those things that is fascinating to look at and to understand the context of it. The other thing again, it’s like all of these things; beware of any single element that carries information, because ultimately they have to be synthesized. It doesn't matter what your particular resonance is to the form of another if you’re a Manifestor or a Projector or a Generator or a Reflector, you’re aurically confined to dealing with it in a certain way. In other words, there are all kinds of aspects that need to be synthesized before you can come to any conclusion or to any complete analytical outline. We’re still working here with an element, this single element, just this way in which the Design North Node, the way in which it forms the key to the bonds that we’re going to have. Not only that, it tells you the want the bonds are ideally working, because you get to see that through the gate. This is somebody that wants real intimacy. The 5 that will bring real intimacy and in real intimacy with the 5, this is something that’s going to be very special. It’s probably going to be their sexual hook in this life. Here it’s different. Here it’s, “Well, I’m busy,” because that's really what it is. “You can connect to me physically while I’m busy. You can be around me. You can follow me.” It’s a very different way of connecting with the other. Again, there’s no negative intended in all of that; just difference. At every level that you look you can see something. That’s the beauty of having the tools. So you can see the importance of that intimacy. And of course, you can see that underlining all of that is the fact that this is somebody where the Nodes are 4s. This is somebody that is going to need lots of acquaintances to fill up their environment so that they can find those particular aspects. We all have these keys. It’s what makes the Link Nodes something that is really so special, because they give you these qualities of overview. Intimacy is going to be this person's story. Being busy is going to be this person's story—intimacy and looking for the spirit, busy empowering in the now; storylines. And within the context of those storylines what they need, what they're looking for is an attractive force, looking for that Personality world, looking for that mental world. The Importance of Who is in Your Life You can see so much about a being in terms of way in which their process is going to be conditioned by the other. This is everything. It's one of the first things that I recognize when I began to train people. You can help a single being. You can make a difference in their life. You can be the messenger for them of something that is essential for them. They can take it in. They can begin to work with it. But they have to live in the world of peers. They have to live in their social dynamic. --- PAGE 74 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 66 And because everybody has started off conditioned, most beings by the time they’re in their 30s have already established a social dynamic that is unlikely to change; the vast majority of people. And it carries with it all of the things, all of the hooks that keep one locked into a homogenized way of life. From the very beginning it was so obvious to me that this is the real struggle is that if you leave the individual alone they will come to grips with the truth. But if you send them out to experiment in the world that they are going to have to be a very lucky, very dedicated, whatever language you want to use to be able to deal with the nature of the forces around them. From the moment that I began to investigate Variable, it was so obvious to me that everything about possibility for us is that given that we are here to be cognitive that we need somebody to be cognitive with. This is why we have a Throat. It’s why we have all of these profound tools for being able to articulate the maia. We are not here to just shout into the wind. We’re not. It’s a great dilemma of beings is the inadequacy in human communication. It’s just fundamental inadequacy. People have great difficulty in truly being able to communicate with each other. They can exchange formulas. This is standard in our world; but really to communicate with each other? And of course, this is what we’re all about. And yet at the same time, it’s not some kind of new agey, we’re all one, we can talk to anybody, because it’s not true, nor can we be with just anybody. It’s not true. It’s very specific. Differentiation does not end with your form closed in through its aura. It doesn’t. Everything about the potential for our differentiation is rooted in who is going to be in our life because they make our story. It’s what the Nodes teach us. This is what it’s all about. Being Environmentally Correct Unless we are very rigid in the way in which we operate so that we protect ourselves and that we act as a magnet for those associations that are correct for us. After all, when you're in your environment and you are correct as a being, that the forces that are moving towards you in that environment that these are forces that are there to support your process, regardless of what kind of role they play, because it’s not up to them. It’s the environment that conditions it. That Node that is looking out towards the other that is taking in the essence of their form principle that it is going to get the best of those connections when it is environmentally correct. This is why to be in the right environment at this point in your process is something that is really deeply essential. It’s essential not simply because the obvious of where it goes to, that is the story unfolds through the perspective and all of this leads to awareness, it’s about grasping that being there is when you begin to align yourself to the forms that are correct for you, that you can be with, that are kindred in their nature. It is something that when you bring together the Design and Personality sides and you really are correct in the way in which you’re operating, you’re going to --- PAGE 75 --- Lecture Four Environment, Orientation and Relationships Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 67 meet these various combinations and be very sensitive to the differences. But you will also get to experience what it means to have these resonances either as a Personality interest or as a physical compelling, that this is something that is really very special. From the way in which Variable operates you can see that so much is dependent on the success that it is possible through the form. And here you can see something really additional. That is, it’s not just simply the success of the form in terms of a healthy brain, and obviously healthy decision-making and being in the right environment, so establishing the potential for your long-term well-being and quality of life. It sets up everything. It is what makes form principle so extraordinary. There are Others Who are Truly for Us It also says something else that I think is very special. It says that there are those out there that are truly for us. I mean that, in the sense that there are so many beings out there that we can physically connect to. It doesn't mean we will. But it also says that we are absolutely not here alone. It changes the way in which you pay attention to experience. I’ll give you an example. Everything about awareness is about living awareness on the mundane plane. This is where your life is. And on the mundane plane we have all kinds of interactions that take place. We have to shop, we go places and we do things and we work with people and we have families. There are all these various things that are at work. Now, every single being that you meet is unique. And you have a unique way of meeting them. And you cannot see them if you are not correct and allowing that to happen. You can’t. And if you’re not correct in allowing it to happen and if you're not in the right place environmentally speaking, then you're not going to have fulfillment through your relationships and you're not going to get your story, because you can’t get your story without it. There is that thing that they do every once in a while in the theater districts, one- person shows. And they can be interesting. But life is a drama of many characters, major characters, minor characters, insignificant background characters. But this is what our life is. Something happen to me in my process, because I had this unusual counterpoint of being so deeply integration and at the same time being left angle. What I’ve learned to see is that every single being that I encounter is an influence in my life. And I mean that at every level you can manage. It is just so obvious to me. I've experienced it very dramatically to have allies who have been signposts who have pointed me in directions. But, there’s more than that. It’s recognizing that in the magic of the way in which it all plays out and I'm not in charge of geometries that these forces that are there that I encounter that they are there for me. There is no other explanation in that --- PAGE 76 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 68 moment. And no matter what rolls are being played, there is this wonder in this connection because it changes your story. I have a deep, deep respect for encounter. It’s what we are all about, these moments of meeting. And when you’re correct you can experience them in a way that is really quite beautiful, because you get to see the fundamental connection that we do have to the other and how it is impossible for us in this process of our movement along our storyline to do this alone. So, there are all those things that are there. On the surface we’ve got split definitions; the 45% of the population that train all of us to get into the pair bonding business. We’ve got the genetic imperative that drives us to connect to what we are attracted to. There are all of these elements that are in us. We have tribal circuitry that’s in us. We are by our very wiring connected to each other, dependent on each other, dependent on others to produce us, after all; dependent on another to produce more, and on and on. It is what existence is about. The Body Feels the Recognization in the Aura So, this theme of being able to look at the physical fractal connection is something that's very significant. Not so much for us, frankly. As I said, it is really an element that is intended to unfold absolutely naturally, the byproduct of a correct being getting to their Saturn return, and stepping into their story and meeting the forces that they’re here to meet. By the way, it doesn't mean that they’re just going to meet their resonance. It is not the point. They will and will recognize it as kindred. They are special forces for us in this life. And it’s not that we have to have intimacy with these beings, by the way, physical intimacy. It isn't even about having a need to make tactile contact of any kind for that matter. You can feel it in the aura. You can feel it in the aura, this recognition. It’s a recognition. It is your body recognizing. That’s something very different than the personality recognizing. A Natural Relaxation Normally when the body recognizes, probably the easiest way to sort of measure that is as bio-forms there is always a certain level of alertness that is there in our relationship with any other being. And there is a natural relaxation, if I can put it that way that comes when one can connects through resonance with another form. I’ve looked at, as I always do with all of these things and go through my own process and my own investigation, it’s fascinating to see the different ways in which different beings in your life who have different values in their relationship to you to be able to see this physical part of your relationship them. --- PAGE 77 --- Lecture Four Environment, Orientation and Relationships Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 69 The Problem with Birth Time Now again, and it is in fact a major caution, birth time is a real problem when it comes to working with Base. It just is. I think that unless you’re really certain of your time, that it's something that you should just look at theoretically, because it’s interesting at that level. I think there are certain things about it that are so obvious that it sometimes can be very useful—rectifications and things like that. But it is a caution. As we’ve moved deeper and deeper into the substructure, it’s why that I did not discuss all of this as part of the basic training level of Primary Health System. It’s dangerous to use this kind of information with certainty, given the nature of a bad timing. So, I always go back to the same place. When I was given the knowledge I was given the knowledge for children coming into the world who would get the benefits of this knowledge. And they’re the ones that will only get those benefits again, given that they have aware parents who are aware of time. It was never intended that things like Base orientation was something that I've would ever offer as a practical tool. It is fascinating. And it is an essential ingredient in the science of differentiation. But accuracy of birth time, we’re talking about minutes here, accuracy of birth time is really one of those dilemmas. The Right of Children to have Birth Time So, be very careful about the way in which you internalize this information in terms of yourself or the way in which you’re looking at others. Unless obviously that you’re dealing with birth times that you’re really secure with. It is really just one of those things that we need to make sure, particularly as professionals and in terms of our publicity work, our dealing with others that they really understand how important it is that, particularly pregnant women, that it is just hammered into them that it’s the right of this child to have its birth time, regardless of what the parents believe. But it’s really something that is so important. It’s amazing to me. My son, Loki, and his friends, I’ve done many of their designs. But it's remarkable how many I haven't done because there is no accurate birth time; parents who don't know whether it’s on the half hour or the hour; no idea in that sense. Just sort of a rough guesstimate of when the time was at birth. Yes, you can do things with charts like that. And there are techniques to try to do rectifications and all of these things. However, all of that is not always absolutely certain, after all. There’s nothing better than actually having real time. So, keep it in mind because we work with it, we also tend to forget about that is really something that needs to be part of general information about Human Design because the person that you talk you, they may have a friend or a child or whatever that is pregnant or is planning a family. It’s the kind of thing that's really important to get across. Not everybody is aware of that. --- PAGE 78 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 70 It is a very trying, exciting, difficult time in a couple's life. It’s not always the thing that’s foremost in their mind, but it is really something that is very, very important to get across, because just looking at these designs, I have no idea whether these are accurate. At some level I can see the validity of them because I know the nature of the personalities involved. But then again, there’s no way of knowing. I need to make sure you genuinely grasp that. Awareness is the Juxtaposition of Two Outer Authorities So this orientation to the body I think is something that is very important some day, because I think it has to do with the way in which awareness is intended ultimately to operate. I think awareness is a juxtaposition. I think awareness is the juxtaposition of two outer authorities. I think that’s really where awareness is. I think this is how true awareness emerges is through the communion of correct outer authority. And being connected to the right forces is physically and intellectually beneficial. The refinement of one's relationships and particularly working relationships, to work with somebody that you’re physically comfortable with is an advantage. There are all kinds of things that can be grasped, all kinds of tools that can emerge out of understanding the mechanics of it. But again, the proviso is always the same; the time has to be accurate. All well, it’s nice to share that with you. It gives you something to think about. But don’t let my comments about timing stop you from looking at charts. I think it’s very important just an exercise that you do that. I think you'll get a feel for it that way and many of them will be accurate. It works out that way, the serendipity of it. And it’s a very powerful insight to have about whom you are and your connection to the other. The other thing is to remember that others are connecting to you in the same way. In other words, if you look at your Design Sun/Earth and you look at the Base of your Design Sun/Earth you get to see what others are looking for in you. So, it’s an interesting thing to work with. Okay, all of you, you take care. Nice to see you all, and until next time, bye for now. ~ --- PAGE 79 --- Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 71 Lecture Five The Platform for Transcendent Perspective Hello and welcome to all of you. Welcome to our last installment in this program. I’ve had a long trajectory in the knowledge now. Certain basic things changed in the way in which I looked at a design. When I started I put all the emphasis here. My very earliest teachings, as a matter of fact, the very first time that I taught a group of people, a group of Spanish women in a small village here on the island of Ibiza which was in the spring of 1991, the first thing that I taught them was the Cross of Life. That is, the Sun above and the Earth below and the South Node to the past and the North Node to the future. But I put enormous emphasis on the Sun/Earth. It became in so many ways one of the cornerstones of the way in which the surface of Human Design was understood, the presence of profile, of incarnation cross, all of that being related to the internal, to the Dependent Variable. It leads to a certain way of looking. That is, it’s very helpful in the sense that Human Design is about the potential of uniqueness and the potential of the fulfillment of that uniqueness on this plane. And certainly that fulfillment, because what we understand from tonal architecture is that everything is cognition and that everything about us is a support mechanism for cognition, and that the only way in which we’re going to be able to demonstrate the potential itself is through an expression of cognition at its highest levels. Obviously, that involves the mind and the brain system. The Dysfunction of the Form Principle When I began to work with trying to provide people with a way to go, that is, to answer the question that they never asked, sometimes they asked, which was, “What should I do? What can I do?” Everything about Human Design is that it is --- PAGE 80 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 72 form principle, even when we’re discussing perspective and awareness we're really talking about form principle, because this is how it works. It doesn’t matter what kind of illusion we bring to it. In the end it’s all form principle. And I think one of the first things that I was so deeply aware of in my own education was how dysfunctional the form principle was on this plane; deeply dysfunctional. I could see just in the surface in the way in which designs were oriented that human beings were not functioning correctly and they were suffering as a byproduct of it. That suffering was both physical and intellectual. Surrendering to the Vehicle It seems so clear to me that the answer itself was so obvious and yet it could not be seen because there was no way to see it through mind. That is, that the form that we are endowed with is the ideal for our movement on this plane. It’s the designer vehicle. It is designed for us. And surrendering to that vehicle is really everything that's part of the Human Design process. Strategy and Authority is surrendering to the form principle, it’s surrendering to the vehicle. Of course, the moment we’re talking about the vehicle we’re talking about something that's very different than this up here, because we can’t talk about the vehicle and the form principle without talking about the life and this is where the life is. Here’s that unfolding drama, that unfolding story that is there in our movement in this life, this whole trajectory of life. This is not the vehicle, but it is what moves the vehicle, pulls the vehicle, and tugs the vehicle. It is that geometry that is there specifically for this particular form. It doesn’t really matter how deep you go up here. It doesn’t. It’s a dependent Variable. It’s dependent on the form principle. And fact is that you can’t look over here. You can’t, because everything about this over here, everything about the Personality side, everything about the linkage that is there, everything about it is dependent on this. I taught Primary Health System for two three-year programs and only taught one semester of environment in each. It's why I've been doing these classes with you, to --- PAGE 81 --- Lecture Five The Platform for Transcendent Perspective Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 73 really bring a proper perspective to how significant, how important environment is as something to add to what you know on the Design side. PHS When I first began to introduce PHS I was very cautious about working with this information. First of all, again it is one of those things that I talk about over and over again; that is, time, to have the correct time in order to be able to substantiate the nature of the Tone. The fact that you have 1 to 3 and 4 to 6 that will produce Left-ness or Right-ness does give you a certain leeway in your timing, but not much. It is one of those essential ingredients not to be forgotten. But that work in PHS, those three years were really dedicated to determination. You had to go through the process of the basics of the design, the infrastructure, the chains and all of the values that are there in the inherent substructure and the way in which that works, the Base theory that goes along with that. But ultimately all of that was really about the simple. That is, the relationship between the Tone and the Color and the determination that is going to make such a difference to the way in the brain system and ultimately the vehicle is going to operate. I think that of all the physical revolutions in Human Design, I don't think that there is anything quite as extraordinary as what PHS does for the body, and not just simply the body, obviously because it has a deep impact on the brain system which ultimately is going to impact the way in which the sensory system is going to operate, the acuity of the sensory system and ultimately the potential of mind itself. So, we’re talking about something that is very significant. There’s no question that despite my caution at the beginning of that process it was evident almost immediately that it was something that was going to have a very strong impact. Now of course, there are all kinds of variations of the way in which the effectiveness of PHS is in terms of the relationship to one’s particular design, the level of conditioning, and the physical dilemmas in the body. After all, this knowledge was not intended for the conditioned, but intended for the raising of children. Nonetheless, there is no question that it was the star of the show for the PHS program. But during the whole course of doing that, I realized something. I think in a way it was fundamentally empathic. That is, my sense of obligation in a way to all of the many students who have worked with me over the years, the knowledge is self-evident mechanically. It says that transformation is a four-part process and you --- PAGE 82 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 74 don't even get close to it until you get one and two right. This is really what Primary Health System is all about. The Importance of Environment For me, it means that it’s time to bring a balance to the way in which we incorporate environment in our work with others. One of the things that you learn about the nine-centered being is that the environment isn’t an issue until you’re beyond your first Saturn cycle. That is, approximately 30 years old. Everybody here has seen 30. There is an obligation in dealing with people who are coming in the middle of their life to Human Design to align them environmentally. And it’s something that I’ve really become very clear about. I think that it’s not correct not to give it an essential profound importance. I don't want to get into the whole mind thing of measuring, what is more significant, the Dependent or the Independent Variable. But I think the language of them speaks volumes. That is, there is no holistic being without a life. The life is such an incredible thing. And there is this beauty in the difference that fascinates me so much. That is, that the Independent Variable is something that resonates. It’s something that resonates. It is drawn to this life and this world and drawn to others. It is looking for its perfection, there to resonate to that perfection and carry in that all of this unique differentiate equipment that’s there. The other thing is my concern for the vehicle and its longevity. Every life is a journey. We as nine-centered beings in these Uranian vehicles are expected to have an extended journey in these forms. Whatever the times tend to be, the fact is it's a vehicle that is designed for 84 years of prime functioning. That longevity, that long-term well-being isn’t something that is going to be created through Strategy and Authority and determination alone, because we know that a nine-centered being from the time that they’re 30 years of age they're expected to be in the correct environment. That is, that correct environment that’s going to nurture all the things we’ve been looking at. That is, an environment that nurtures your well-being, that nurtures your social interaction, that nurtures you in your relationship to the world around you. --- PAGE 83 --- Lecture Five The Platform for Transcendent Perspective Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 75 This is where the easy ride is, if you want an easy ride. It is the thing that I see so much in the lives of people that I touch. I see that life can be so difficult at times, unyielding in its quality of difficulty. The magnificence of the knowledge is that when you can get to a place where that is the entertainment. Entertainment is an interesting thing. I’m so aware of the fact that life is mostly melodrama. There is a magic in being able to live your life without interfering with it, without suffering as a result of it, because there’s no need. Life is Mundane If I’ve discovered anything about the nature of being is that it’s mundane. It’s the great joke for me is that this is what life is. Life is mundane. It is very basic. It is food and shelter and friends and lovers and children and parents, all of the things that are fundamentally mundane. In that world, because it is a world, obviously, that is ruled by homogenized thought and societies that there are so many things that are uncomfortable, that are difficult, however one wants to look at them. And that there is a whole broad range of relationships that are really questionable in this life. Environment is the Nurturer of the Life And yet, if your form is correct, if you’ve surrendered to that form, if you put yourself in the right environment you start a distillation process that really is one that brings you to all of your potential. One of the things that’s so clear to me at this stage is that environment is the nurturer of the life. It is. And you can see by its design mechanism and if you switch Link Nodes, the South Node theme of the Design and the North Node theme of the Personality, we’re really here to establish this environment early in our process. If we overlook it now I think that we do a disservice to any of those beings that are interested in the knowledge that we can offer them. And I think that one of the things that we really need to look at is this combining of these elements in dealing with anyone who is ready for real form principle knowledge rather than it being— again my caution. I’ve got the 12th gate twice. I have a natural tendency to caution until I see that something is legitimized and it’s really there. There was an interesting comment in the class that I held before this—we were talking about different kinds of workshop situations—the comment about somebody saying seeing how the theoretical pans out in reality. This is what happens to me in my process is watching what happens in the theoretical when you see it within the context of everyday life. --- PAGE 84 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 76 Environment is as Essential as any other Ingredient of being Correct And it’s the thing that’s brought this to this point for me about the nature of environment that environment is something that is absolutely as essential as any of the fundamental ingredients of being correct in this life. It is as absolutely as necessary as dietary regimen as it is for Strategy and Authority. And it really is something that needs to be established firmly. I’ve already experienced how devastating it can be when you’re not environmentally correct. And I know many, many stories from people in relationship to that. We live with a lot of new age habits, fads. And I think that this is something that we have to be very careful with in terms of who we’re offering the information to. One of the things is that in the not-self the mind will always find a way to say yes to something if it’s interested in something. It doesn’t really mean anything. And it's not something that should be put out in such a way that the being decides mentally this is something that I have to do. One of the real dilemmas of both determination and environment is not having them be seen as something separate from being integrated into what is a Human Design life, a Human Design life that begins with Strategy and Authority and just sleeping in your own space and becoming comfortable with living a life in a totally different way. And I think that for those beings that are there in that particular point in their experiment that meeting PHS, the full PHS, that is, determination and environment, is something that is essential and important for them. Environment comes through Strategy and Authority And they have to realize that it’s something that they have to move towards according to their Strategy and Authority because that’s really what it’s all about, after all. It’s not a matter of I’m going to go out there and live in my environment, it’s a matter of are you responding to that, did you get an invitation for that, it goes on and on. In other words, it really has to be correct the way you enter into the process, because it's not a fad. Those who have experimented with determination, as an example, you get to see if you treat it as a fat you’re really going to be physically uncomfortable because your vehicle is so eager to align to your correct determination. The moment you move away from it there is going to be a real reaction in the system. It’s not something that is there to be dabbled with. As a matter of fact, you really don’t get the benefit of your determination until you do it for seven years, after all. Everything about us is rooted in our cellular cycles, and particularly something like this that really has to do with the rejuvenation of brain cells. Again, it is always connected with the same thing. It’s so easy for us to dispense this information because in so many ways it’s exciting for people. If you say to somebody you know the right environment for them, it’s interesting for them. If you --- PAGE 85 --- Lecture Five The Platform for Transcendent Perspective Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 77 tell them you know precisely the right determination for them, it’s interesting for them. But it doesn't mean that they are actually ready for the information. Holistic Synthesis of all Elements This is one of the dilemmas because it’s not a thing in and of itself. One of the things about the work that I do in terms of holistic analysis is to recognize that all these years now, the five years that I’ve spent focused on substructure it’s not about the elements themselves. It is about the holistic synthesis of all of these elements. That’s where the story really is. All of that is consistent with the correct way of being. Strategy and Authority begins the process of fine-tuning the vehicle. It begins to change the vehicle's frequency. It opens up the pathway for the Design internal tonally, the sensory system to begin to operate in a much more efficient way in the brain system, all of these basic things that take place as a byproduct of it. But, unless we are dealing with children or babies, the fact is that most of the beings that we're dealing with are already in point of their life where they’re there to have this proper platform established for perspective. The Design Side Sets Everything Up And it’s environmental and it's one of the most profound keys for us. This environment nurtures everything that is the potential of the nine-centered being. That’s what it does, because not matter what you look at over here on the Personality side, it is all a byproduct of what it’s getting from here. Everything is dependent on this; everything. It’s fascinating for me to look at these two stories as they have unfolded for me, the story of the Design side and the story of the Personality side. The Personality has a certain sexiness to it. It’s deeply complex because of openness and conditioning. And in fact, there is much more material mechanically that has to be looked at on the Personality side. Yet, that doesn’t equate to the Personality actually having greater weight in story as it were than the Design side, because it’s totally, totally dependent on it. This is what sets everything up and makes everything possible. It just does. --- PAGE 86 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 78 I'm absolutely convinced that the greatest serendipity in my lifetime through my whole life has been that I have always been in the correct environment with the exception of two years in my life. It’s an amazing thing for the consistency of the environment and the benefits that I have derived from being in the correct environment, the way in which it has helped to establish the quality of perspective that I actually have. It’s just great good fortune. It’s one of those serendipities that can be there in a life. It’s something to see. And I have seen the threat that comes to the well-being and the quality of the story of my life when I’m not in the right environment. The environment is really something profound. The journey that we’ve had over these last four weeks or so is the tip of the iceberg to how important environment really is, because again, it is through the Nodes that we have linkage. The Illusion of Our Existence is Grounded in the Nodes So, in dealing with the reality of the Link Nodes, in understanding that this is what binds us together, literally binds us together. We’re talking about the instruments of the Magnetic Monopole holding us together. The whole illusion of our existence is grounded here. This is where the infrastructure is. Yeah, over here it gets to the conscious level. It gets to “I think I think I think I think I think.” But here this is where it’s made and this is pulled to it. They are linked together. But this is the form principle itself. This is the potential of the Personality being bound to the form principle like the Personality Crystal being bound to this form that’s it never really a part of. And it’s here. This is the cornerstone of life. And you ignore environment at your peril, because it's the cornerstone of your life. You’ve got that developmental stage until you're 30 years of age, getting used to being your own authority, developing well physically because you're nourished correctly. And then you step into the storyline, the storyline that’s going to take you to your Kiron. And that storyline that then is going to unfold in what is your flowering, that is, the fulfillment of your process on your cross. --- PAGE 87 --- Lecture Five The Platform for Transcendent Perspective Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 79 Environment Changes the Resistance Field But here, this point, it’s why environment is so important as something that you share with somebody who is really ready, and instead of my caution, the sooner the better so they have the tools. It doesn't speed anything up in that sense. It helps alignment. We’re biological forms, you can’t speed things up. But there is alignment, the fine-tuning of the frequency, the changing of the resistance field. That’s what this does. It changes the resistance field. Your Magic Cloak You can go along in this life like somebody walking in a pouring rain that’s just blowing right at them with your head down bent into the wind. Most people's lives, after all, is meeting resistance. And that resistance is deteriorating. It impacts us psychologically. It impacts us physically. It breaks down the body. This is where you eliminate the resistance. This is where you put on your magic cloak and you protect yourself. It’s where you’re naturally going to restrict those elements that don’t belong in that environment. They will not be attracted to it. They will not resonate to it. The moment that you eliminate the resistance, boom, everything changes. You get a smooth ride. You can walk erect. And it’s here. The beauty of it is, like everything else in Human Design, it's so simple. You all well know by now that Human Design is a science. It’s not simple, it’s incredibly complex. But when you distill that complexity, you get to the pure simple. Here’s the environment. This is what it is. Here’s the determination. This is what it is. Here’s the Strategy and Authority. This is what it is. There’s no rocket science in that; straight forward and an incredible life changer. The same enthusiasm that you carried with determination to people in your life, this is an enthusiasm that truly you need to embrace with environment. This is an ingredient that is essential, the fundamental binary that’s here on the Design side, the Cross of Life on the Design side, the determination and the environment. Those ingredients are transforming. --- PAGE 88 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 80 They also tell you the continuing story of what it means to be somebody who lives this knowledge. You live this knowledge in a different way, because you live your life differently. That room that you sleep in alone. That way that you eat that is different than others; that space that you honor in a way that others don't. It is about the expression of differentiation in a world that is only used to homogenization. That to live this is always a challenge socially; always. Correct Environment is Essential for Transformation Yet, you do not live this for the other. You live this for yourself. There are beings on this plane that truly seek transformation. Most who come seek help. And there are those that seek transformation. They are different things. For most, Strategy and Authority is the bandage that they need that will make their life easier, less painful. It does not mean that they will take this journey. But those that are really seeking transformation that are on this fractal of Human Design, this is knowledge that is absolutely essential to them, and because of their age, the sooner the better. This is one of the most important aspects of the experiment that we can offer. So, my journey into environment elaboration during this course is all geared towards this and understanding that it belongs at the same level of importance as determination in helping somebody establish a correct physical life and opening up the true possibility for transformation in their life because there is no way to get that unless you have this bedrock that is here because it's really the key. It’s always going to be the key. Change in One’s Frequency This is where I see the real difference. The people in my life who I have watched, who have embraced their PHS and who have been involved in their PHS for quite a few years now, there’s a remarkable change in their frequency. That’s the thing that impresses me the most about what happens with determination. There is this incredible change in frequency. Environment Prepares You for Life as Yourself I think when you get to that level one of the first things you notice is how sensitive you are to people, and particularly how sensitive you are to the not-self. That’s the moment when you have to see that you need your environment desperately, because it is a filtering mechanism, and is a protecting mechanism. The more aware you become in terms of the heightened potential of your form, the more sensitive you are and therefore the more protection that you need. You environment prepares you for life as yourself. It’s there to prepare you for what that brain system is going to manage. --- PAGE 89 --- Lecture Five The Platform for Transcendent Perspective Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 81 Of course, there is this incredible beauty in understanding that we have a way of pointing any being to what environmentally is correct for them. In doing so, I think we do a tremendous service. So, it’s one of those things I don’t want to hammer it into the ground, but I think you all well understand my point in all of this. This is essential information to offer to people. But again, always in the context that you have to be able to see that they’re ready for that information. It obviously has to be delivered to them correctly. But those that are ready, those that are experimenting, those that are looking for transformation, those that are ready to live a Human Design life, those are the ones that really have a right to know this information at the same time that they find out about their determination. I think that they’re essential ingredients in their transformation. All right, as is my habit when I close a program, the last twenty minutes we have here I’m going to open it up if you have questions or any comments, anything you’d like to add to all of this I’d be more than happy to deal with it or listen to it. Timing of Environment Question: Well, I just want to comment that working with the environment, when you first told me my environment it probably took six months from me to even begin to recognize what you were telling me and at least another year and a half, at this point, I really understand a cave environment. It’s just like a love for that, which I had always been pushing away. So, when I work with people, the first thing I generally meet is, “Oh, I’m not that interested that.” And I suppose it just sits there and has its percolation. Ra: Yeah, I think if they’re not interested in that then there’s no need to tell them, if you know what I mean. One of the things that I’ve always recognized in my professional relationship with clients is that I have to know that they're ready. As a matter of fact, it was my habit in my career of doing live readings with people, sitting with people that the first thing that I would say to them is, “are you ready?” I think that people have to be ready. I think that when you see that somebody isn’t ready for information then you wait until their ready, because there is no fixed rule here. It really is what Human Design is. When you’re working with others, it’s one person at a time. This is how transformation or how breakthrough really works in Human Design is one being at a time. And each being, because they are inherently unique, each being presents a different story in terms of the way in which you can approach them and work with them. I’m just trying to set general framework here of seeing that there's no need to separate these two items for those that are ready. Again, if somebody isn’t, they aren’t. But you know what I’m saying. In other words, for those that are ready, I think that this is something that is very significant. --- PAGE 90 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 82 The Mind is Daunted by the Environment Information Question: Well, I take your point and there is a sort of digestion about the information, but it seems to me that what is difficult is that you can set a very obvious frame for the determination, for what PHS needs to be to experiment and test and see what happens. And yet, when you get to environment you’re really confounding the mind. You’re saying, well, you can’t do anything about it, you just watch your alignment to that. So, I think I'm commenting on that way that the mind is a little bit daunted by the information. Ra: Yeah, I think that’s true. I think that’s true for everyone. The interesting thing is—one day we’ll get to see that—children now being raised according to their design, what happens to them when they get to their Saturn. I assume it’s just simply a natural thing. And it’s not something that we know. And because of the way in which the not-self operates environment can seem sort of odd even. Again, I understand the general clientele that you’re going to meet. Not everybody is ready for such things. Again, it depends on where they are in their process and what you think that they require in any given time. I think you’re also correct in saying that something like environment—and again we’ll have a full spectrum of experiences—but the tendency will be that it will take time for that to really settle in. But I think that part of the responsibility is making sure that there is an awareness of it in the sense that at least they know that such a thing is there. It may not be the correct time for that. But, it is something that is there. It is a seed that is planted that maybe at some point will really be of value to them. Rectification of Birth Time Question: Ra, I find that I have parents that are very interested in the PHS of their children and have accurate birth data. However, the parents themselves may not have and sometimes they feel—I mean they really want it for themselves also. If anyone has a way of being more precise with parent data, that could be very, very helpful. I wonder about—how do I put this—how many degrees of accuracy, for example, for Tone—are there any ways—I’m just looking at degrees of accuracy— okay, here’s my Right brain; I’m not able to verbalize this the way I pictured this in my head. So maybe somebody can help me here. Ra: Well, Elfriede has developed quite an insight into potential rectification through the various elements in data base. I think that it is always a dilemma. As I said, one of the advantages—Tone changes I think every four hours or something; no that’s Color. Comment: 38 minutes Ra: Thank you. Because Left-ness and Right-ness is not Tone specific, but left side, right side specific, so for example, Tones 1, 2 and 3 that basically you’re looking at over 100 minutes, 110 or 108 minutes, something like that. So, you've got a leeway --- PAGE 91 --- Lecture Five The Platform for Transcendent Perspective Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 83 in there of the correctness of Left-ness and Right-ness that with most decent times, within five minutes times, unless it’s one the cusp of either the 1 or the cusp of the 6th Tone or the 3, unless it’s on the cusp you really have a shot of being able to get the Left-ness and the Right-ness correct. So, determination is fairly reasonable with people that have fairly reasonable time. I would be more concerned about being careful with specific Tones themselves, because again you need good time for that and no question obviously of Base. But because of the way that Left-ness/Right-ness works, you actually have a fairly big window. So, those parents, if they have a reasonable time this is something that could be used for them without working with a specific sense itself, but only dealing with the Left-ness or the Right-ness. Question: If you would not mind, Ra, I would like to come back shortly to my theme of yesterday and ask: when the story line is finished at chiron return, is it that then you should have reached the level of the psn(link) and then in the flowering period after 50 you start from the psn theme(the second link) and then you go to the pnn theme then? Or is the main point more on the psun theme of the awareness in the flowering period? Ra: The storyline is something that is what we would call the roof stage in a 6th line being’s life. That is, it’s not the whole life. It is where the story of the life is formed. That’s what maturity is about. That is, between 30 and 50 is when you define your role on this plane and you fundamentally lock yourself into whatever the life is going to be. That’s really the essence of what storyline is about. It’s the platform for your wisdom. It is the storyline that gives you your career or your “this or that,” or whatever the case may be. When you get to your Kiron, the nine-centered flowering period, what you get at that moment is the beginning of a process in which you can as an awareness take advantage of all of these previous processes that you’ve gone through. It’s the classical role model, being an example of your uniqueness, because that’s what the flowering period is all about. Yes, there is a relationship to the theme of the South Node and the theme of the North Node. There’s no question that the North Node theme is going to take on a great deal of significance as an analytical pointer to the quality or the nature of what is going to be the post-Kiron phase. There was a period in my work where I did Kiron readings and I focused exclusively on the Dependent and Independent Variable. The Independent Variable is such an indicator of where the story is; not just the storyline, but the whole story. One of my earliest teachings was the thematics of the South Node being a dominant theme in first half of the life and the North Node being the dominant theme in the second half of the life in terms of the way in which the whole geometry works. That’s still a fact. What you really get to see is the impact that the North Node theme has on the way in which the of the mind is going to work, because if you look at the Prime Node on Personality side, the Prime Node, which is the indicator of the second-half life theme, is going to have a direct influence on the way in which the mind is going to operate. So, there is a natural connection that is there. --- PAGE 92 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 84 Okay, I think I finally gave you your answer, Elfriede. Difference Between Hardscape and Landscape Question: Ra, I’d like to get a bit more clarity about the hardscape/landscape division and a sort of level of priority. I notice, I have a friend who is kitchens and they’re just moving from living really quite far in the country to living right in the center of a small village. The village has 200 houses in it. That isn’t exactly urban, but it seems to me that must be the right place for them at this time. When you're looking at the landscape people who live in the cities, as long as, for example, they’re living up or they’re living by a lake, just as you did in Toronto, that’s kind of where you can slide by. Is that right? Maybe something needs to change, but not urgently? Ra: Yes, the first one, living in the village in the middle of a village, that’s hardscape, that’s real hardscape. It doesn’t have to be urban in the sense that it’s a huge sprawling megalopolis. That is certainly the right place for them to be. Landscape is very different. It’s the same kind of thing that you see with conditions and circumstances in determination. Conditions are really, really strict. Circumstance is very different. It’s much looser, in a sense. It has a very different quality to it. The same thing is true with hardscape and landscape. There’s much more latitude in landscape than there is in hardscape. And the same way there’s much more latitude in circumstances than there is in conditions. The Significance of Environment Question: And I’m advocate for the fact that the environment could be very key. After August with you, it’s been rather profound. So, I think you have to look at the whole package and so I was doing what I thought was correct but I’m finding on closer inspection I found out I really needed to operate differently. And it's having a very positive impact for me at this point. Ra: Yes, we talked about it Cathy, I think that it is a significant part of changing your life. It’s one of those elements in the vehicle aspect of design where you change your life. It really does make an incredible difference. It’s why I want to stress that as much as I can how important it is to get this information out. Yes, I know that there is this and that out there; there are all kinds of beings and we all understand that. Yet, at the same time you each have fractals to beings who are really ready. This is one of those things where it can really make a difference; so much of a difference in terms of just the long-term well-being of a person. To align yourself to your environment is really to make a real difference. --- PAGE 93 --- Lecture Five The Platform for Transcendent Perspective Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved. Copyright 2009 Jovian Archive Corporation 85 The Urban Market Environment Question: I just want to share that I agree. I’m an example of markets and I'm so healthy being in the urban environment. This knowledge allowed me to let go of the idea, like for instance I wanted to be in the country which I wouldn’t be healthy in the country and I’m very healthy. The other thing now for me, I meet people who are ready and want the information. For me, I would love more information now. I’m hungry for information regarding why am I so sensitive to people and their frequency. That's what I'm hungry for now. Ra: A wonderful thing about hardscape people is that they filter pollution better than landscape people. There are so many things about the city that for landscape people are so dangerous for them that are not dangerous at all for hardscape people. We’re environmentally different, obviously. That ideal of sitting in the countryside or sitting by the sea, you end up being deathly ill. It’s one of those jokes about life. The grass always seems greener in a dualistic world. Environment is something that is truly profound. It can make such a difference in terms of again, one of those things, like in that case of thinking you should be somewhere else, how easy it is to release oneself from that in understanding you are in the right place. This is correct. It’s particularly one of those things that very important for people with undefined Gs to understand their environment so they do have a sense of place. They might not have the built-in locale, but they have a sense of place. And sense of place is really significant, because it makes such a difference. Again, it’s nurturing for the vehicle in so many different ways. It’s special. Environment after Surgery Question: I just went through some quite heavy dental surgery and I just stayed in my cave. I didn’t buy any of the trips of the healers that said you have to come and get detoxed and this and that. I just stayed in my cave. It was really interesting. Ra: Yes, yes, yes, the things that make a difference in our lives. The little bits and pieces of information, it’s what keeps me so intrigued in doing all this work. All right, to all of you, I want to thank you for participating. Obviously, it made it possible for me to really stress the importance of environment and all of the various little additional bits and pieces from the orientation and the tonal information. But really, to realize how important this knowledge is for yourself and how important it is for others, and to really be ready to open the door for people to experiment with it. I hope to see you all again soon, and enjoy your break. It’s been fun. To all of you, you take care; bye for now. ~ --- PAGE 94 --- POST-GRADUATE PHS: Environment, Base Orientation and Tone A Digital Book for Advanced Students Post-Graduate PHS is a program of the International Human Design School (IHDS) All Rights Reserved.
